SC engine check.

Post by Keith Clements »

Amy's SC had its engine removed last year. It had been smoking so a check on the pistons showed two black with soot and with some oil in the bores. Ring gaps were between 20 and 30 thou . So new rings were ordered but since a new .5 mm oversize also had a similar gap 1mm oversize were bought and filed down to 8 to 12 thou gap.

Intriguingly one Conrod was 30 gms over weight so it was put in the lathe and the faces were turned down. Now all assemblies with 1 gm.

Valves were pretty good but some light regrinding was done and the valve stem tips flattened off.
