There are various ways of phrasing this question to ascertain the feeling amongst users of JowettTalk.
For example:
Do you care whether a JowettTalk user who is posting and asking a question is a club member before you provide them with valuable advice?
Do you care if pictures you post or information you provide will be available to the public and search engines such as Google?
Do you care if people who are not club members have the benefits of the club provided by JowettTalk?
Conversely, do you think that making such information available freely will promote Jowetts and encourage club membership?
The website contains information that was provided by club members to club members such as magazines, technical documents and remembrances. There are also videos and press cuttings that might have copyright issues if freely published.
JowettTalk currently separates information and users into public and club classifications so if this is not required then the changes being discussed in the Cars and Parts( now in Website design) section would be easier.
Should JowettTalk only be available to club members?

Re: Should JowettTalk only be available to club members?
Hi Keith,
My answers to the four questions you pose would be, in order of the questions, No No,No, and finallly Yes.
I do hope this helps?
Personally, I think the chat sessions in JowettTalk are more likely to promote the club and should be freely available.
On the flip side, the more detailed sessions on the rest of the Club website, such as technical data etc. should probably be restricted to members.
All the best,
David

Re: Should JowettTalk only be available to club members?
Thanks David for the input.
It was difficult but important to make the choice between club member and public information. It does create complexity and has security implications.
Clearly some do not agree with the separation and cannot accept the complexity introduced.
One of the main issues was that magazines do contain member's personal details, redacting these would be very time consuming.
We could have two distinct facilities, one for the public and one for members only. This would be much simpler for registration and possibly login but would create disjointed conversations and references across the two facilities. As it is currently, references to club member resources simply give a message saying that the linked resource is not accessible to anybody without the member privilege.
I think this is more acceptable to most and encourages membership.
