Javelin Front Spring Rebound Buffer (Part 50740)
Now here's a truly stupid question! Can anyone please supply a photo showing the position of the 'Front Spring Rebound Buffer' on the Javelin?

Don't have a picture, bit it's pretty simple. The buffer is triangular in cross section, about 1" per side and the same length as the width of the chassis bracket under the spring arm. It is vulcanized to a thin steel plate. There is a vertical access hole in the center. It is held in place by a single slotted-head 1/4" machine screw passing through the thin plate and with a washer and nut underneath the bracket. A lip bent downwards on the thin plate snugs against the outboard edge of the bracket and stops any rotation.
When the buffer has perished completely, the head of the screw and the plate can be present, although time, dirt and rust can make them appear as one with the chassis bracket. A quick look under the bracket will show if the nut is still there.

Here you go Paul - In stock at JCS - can be fitted with the trunion arm in place if you are careful - these have just been fitted to the clubs Javelin

Hello. Any hints, tips re removing remains and fitting these buffers would be gratefully received. I'm assuming I won't have to do anything too drastic like dismantling the front suspension!

You will need to relax the torsion bar completely to get enough travel on suspension.

Thanks. I was afraid of something like that! Don't think torsion bars have ever been shifted since I have had the car (since 1967!) Won't be easy shifting adjusters, I reckon.

No You don't - I have fitted several sets without adjusting anything - Raise the vehicle on one front side at a time and and place it to a axle stand - then place the jack under the outmost part of the trunion arm - you may find access easier if you remove the road wheel - This should give you sufficient clearance to remove the old plate (if it's still present) and to fit the new buffer - I have yet to come across a Javelin where I have had to wind the tension back on the torsion bar in order to fit the buffer (Bear in mind that virtually every Javelin that comes through my workshop doors has the said buffers missing and are replaced as a matter of course)
