Planning for our celebration events is now in full swing and we intend to keep all the Scottish Membership fully informed as it progresses during 2023. We have set up a Centenary WHAT’S APP PAGE as a easy way to keep members informed of day to day happenings. ANY SECTION CAN JOIN IN. To set this up please let Lynn Prentice know your mobile phone number and that you have the WhatsApp on your mobile. Lynn will then arrange to join the group. Lynn - lynn.prentice@sky.com
Our first gathering of 2023 is us meeting up with the NORTH WEST SECTION of the Jowett Car Club who are visiting Arran in April.
April 23rd 2023 DRIVE IT DAY. – Meet up with the NW Section members who are on route to Ardrossan before making the crossing to the Isle of Arran. Our meeting point is the Cumnock Heritage Centre at 2pm on Sunday 23rd April 2023. The centre is opening specially for us and they are keen to know how many Jowetts and how many people to expect. If you cannot make it in a Jowett you are still very much welcome. (We appreciate the distances involved).
Full address of the meeting point is :- Cumnock Heritage Centre, Block 7, Caponacre Industrial Estate, CUMNOCK, East Ayrshire, KA18 1SH at 2pm. The Herritage Centre are supplying us with Tea and so as a courtesy we need to supply numbers. There is a café nearby at a Factory outlet. As soon as we can obtain attendance numbers further information can be circulated.
PLEASE ADVISE SANDRA PURVES OR AND DAVE THOMSON of your intension to attend by this coming THURSDAY 14th APRIL. This is to advise the NW Section and the Heritage Centre by this coming weekend. THANK YOU.
June 25th 2023. - Riverside Transport Museum, Riverside, 100 Pointhouse Road, Partick, GLASGOW, G3 8RS
We plan to put on a display of Jowett vehicles near the front entrance of the museum from 10 am till 4pm. Centenary Jowett Banners and Feather Flags will adorn our display. This will be a very busy day as the Heritage Bus Association will also be on display. They will be ferrying visitors from the Glasgow Botanic Gardens out to the museum during the day. This event will offer us an ideal opportunity to promote our Centenary Year of the Jowett Marque in the West of Scotland. The museum are very keen to support our visit.
The museum has an excellent restaurant and café facilities with good views over the River Clyde.
We do need a good turnout of Jowetts at this event. Please let Drummond know of your intension to display your Jowett as soon as possible. We will be putting on our own security as we do expect a large turnout. drummond@bryzi.net or 0131 333 3561.
Thank You.
Please advise as soon as you can. June is not that far away.
July 8th and 9th 2023 – Glamis Extravaganza, Glamis Castle, GLAMIS, near Forfar, DD8 1RJ
We have booked a display stand at the Glamis Extravaganza. This is, without doubt, the largest vintage and classic car and commercial event that is held in Scotland. Early discussions with the organisers have been very positive. We are currently preparing specific publicity material for this prestigious display. We will have space for 12 vehicles plus display material. Already many members have agreed to bring their Jowetts, however, more are required. Further information will be circulated as it is received. Our display at Glamis will be an excellent preview of our Dundee Museum Display.
Working with the organisers will be top priority as we promote us as the first car club to reach their Centenary Year.
Please contact Drummond for any further information regarding this event. drummond@bryzi.net
Now onto our Signatory event of our Centenary Year
The first One Make Car Club to successfully reach its Centenary. 1923 to 2023
From Saturday 5th August 2023 until 18th September 2023 the section will be heavily involved in the display of Jowett vehicles within the Dundee Museum of Transport, 10 Market Mews, DUNDEE, DD1 3LA. Planning is well underway and the manufacturing of display equipment has started. We have been given the space in Hall number 1 to show 6 Jowetts covering our range from vintage to post war classics. Two display engines will be on show, a large display of Jowett Car Badges, Jowett Competition Success Information, various Trophies, Jowett models, detailed history of the marque and, most importantly, history of our CLUB and its dedicated membership. Our intention is to offer all Scottish Members the opportunity to be involved in the run up to, and during, the 6 weeks of our display. There will be plenty to do and your various skills are required to make this a real success in promoting our Centenary Year. It has started well with the Restoration Show and our input will be just past the halfway mark. Lets make it count. Much more information will be forthcoming and much of it will be available on our WhatsApp page. Sandra and myself will be the two main administration contacts with all the section committee heavily involved. With just less than 4 months to “J Day” it’s going to be a busy period. We should be receiving a loan Vintage Engine from Yorkshire in a few days and this is a great asset.
In this long email I may have missed a few bits of current information but, if so, updates will bring all up to date. Ideas / suggestions to any of the above will be welcome and if possible will be acted upon.
Please do not be shy in contacting any of the section committee as there is too much experience within this fantastic club not to utilise it.
