Jupiter door glass weatherstrip
This should be an easy question to answer: can anyone tell me if the Mk1 SA Jupiter originally had horizontal door glass weatherstrips on both the outside and on the inside of the sliding side glass, or only on the outside. The weatherstrips are the 9/16" wide felt lined strips with the stainless steel bead that screws onto the door upper flange.
The Spare Parts book for the Jupiter says that the car only has two of these weatherstrips, and my Jupiter E1SA433R only has them on the outside of the glass, but I see many restored Jupiters with them on both sides.
Without a weatherstrip on the inside, there is an unsightly gap between the glass and the timber door capping, and stuff can disappear down into the door cavity!
Javelins have weatherstrips on both side of the sliding side glass, and hence the Spare Parts book for the Javelin says that the car needs 8 of these weatherstrips, not 4.
Thanks,
Andrew

I have a rubber section on the outside to keep the water out as the original has no such ability. I have the brush type on the inside. I think the brush type should be on both sides so the glass does not rattle or get scratched.

Hi Keith, thanks for your reply. Isn't the glass prevented from rattling already - is it located securely by the vertical Bailey channel on front & rear edges or will if still hit the door capping occasionally? It sounds like a very good move to fit a felt weatherstrip on both sides of the glass seeing that there is the space available.Keith Clements wrote: ↑Mon May 23, 2022 9:48 am I think the brush type should be on both sides so the glass does not rattle or get scratched.
Hi Chris, thanks for the info - I guess that the Spare Parts book must be wrong.
Cheers,
Andrew

The channel may work when the window is fully down but there is little support when it is more than half way up. The glass will get scratched when the weatherstrip is worn.

Chris is correct, the factory added them to the inside at some point. Neither 62, 118 nor 140 had them, but 523 did.

Thanks Scott. It makes sense now that you have informed me that initially the weathershield was only fitted by JCL on the outside of the glass, but at some point they added one to the inside too. I'm going to check the timber door cappings on our E1SA433R for any unused screw holes where weatherstrips might have once been attached. Regards, Andrew

Checking the timber door cappings on 433, I can see holes where the weatherstrips were attached originally, and hence my Jupiter had them both inside & outside of the glass.

Re: Jupiter door glass weatherstrip
There's quite a few Jupiter's with timber door cappings - unsure if this was just on early cars however there is only one part number listed and that is for the alloy door capping that was painted the same colour has the body - The capping's are now available new from Jowett Car Spares
