Jimmy Shand's Jupiter still does not run .. BUT I have a new wiring loom currently being fiddled with. A beautiful engine rebuild. .. thanks to an absolutely superb club member (who may not wish his considerable skills advertised) waiting to go in.
It looks scruffier all the time .. but I don't care ... Still travelling hopefully .. and fondly imagine I will be able to drive it before climate change forces me to fit rubber band drive .. or whatever the future holds. As Issac Newton taught us .. if the increments are going in the right direction .. we will arrive sometime.
Thanks to all the brilliant club members who offer parts support hope etcetera.
(saving up for my piano accordion)

- Your interest in the forum: Have just acquired 1953 Jupiter (the ex Jimmy Shand one)- in reasonable condition - but requiring work and missing parts.
Hope for help and advice on restoration, meeting other enthusiasts, generally enjoying the jupiter and, when we are up and running ... joining in some fun.
Would be useful to know if there are other owners around or near my east kent area.
Be useful to see a few details of what a complete car looks like - especially underneath. - Given Name: Allan

Re: Jowett Jupiter 1953
Most amused to find all these old posts. Particularly as I am the supposed idiot who purchased Jimmy Shand's old car ( and it WAS Jimmy Shands and not his son .. as his son has attested.)
Some of the comments however are right on the money .. I would get absolutely NO pleasure from buying a complete and concours car (which I easily could have done) .. and flying around posing for all I am worth .. No Way.
The pleasure for me is in finding a huge challenge and a big learning curve.. restoring some old thing that might have been junked .. and actually eventually knowing something about the construction and engineering.
Saw my first Jupiter on Dartmoor more many years ago and fell in love .. at least i now have one to look at (along with all the old Bradford, motorcycles and boats that fill my garden.
Maybe I will get FJR on the road before the reaper reaps /... maybe not .. but in the words of 'Dr John' Rebennak "if I don't do it .. somebody else will".
and as the famous philosopher NJ Ayer stated (in so many words) 'not many things in life are really important .. and even the important things don't really matter a toss!'
Whatever else, buying FJR has put me into contact with a whole load of really nice and super helpful club members .. that was worth the money on its own.
and with inflation on the go again ... that supposedly over the top purchase price would not even buy me a week in Benidorm or a short Med. cruise ( I would not give tuppence for either.)
So that is my stance.
