Magneto, fuel tank and exhaust for wartime pump.

Post by dougie »

Hi Guys,
I have managed to get hold of a wartime pump but the magneto, fuel tank and exhaust are missing.
I am able to make the tank and exhaust but need to know what they look like.
A manual would be very helpful as would a magneto

I have a Manual, and I did put a scan of it onto the Gallery in my folder. It didn't come across very well, but let me know if is useable, or I can copy it for you.

MANY years ago I had a wartime Jowett engine which had a 'quick start' magneto. This gave a 'snap' as the engine was turned on the handle so that the magneto was moving quickly at this point and gave a good spark even if the engine was being turned slowly.

The brass fuel tank ran across the width of the angle iron frame and was basically rectangular, with flat ends but the long edges were all rounded at about 1 inch radius. It had a knurled brass filler cap and a float operated level guage.

The steel exhaust also ran acros the frame and was circular in section. It had pressed steel 'dished' ends which might be tricky to replicate.

I hope you get some illustrations - a picture is worth . . .
The devil is in the detail!

Thanks Ian,
I would love to get hold of some photos.
This pump and engine is very messy and locked solid, but we will get there in the end.
It should look great towed behind our
bradford.
