Dash lights

In the centre of the dash there seems to be a small light on my 1953 Javelin deluxe. Can't seem to find it on drawings and what its for. It doesn't appear to be working anyway for any purpose .

my javelin is a 53 model and the light between the oil and water gauge is high beam

Will have to check it as its not working. Seems no power to it. Drawing shows its fed from the high beam cable to the front light. There must be a bulb in it as no LEDs when the car was made.

The bulb is round the back and the light from it is conducted through a small plastic rod set into the wood, which is why it appears so small. A better idea than my modern car that has a large blue warning on the dash that is so bright I do not like to use main beam.

The high beam light in the dash was not working have traced wires under the bonnet with the drawing but could not find as too many wires cut off or added over the years. I decided to run a new wire from the dip switch now its working ok. I had to remove the dip switch anyway as it was seized solid on opening i found the spindle was seized a spray with wd40 released it and put back together it works ok.
Have another problem with the roof light not working can't find the route of the cables i assume they go down the drivers side pillar. I have wiring diagrams but no cable rout drawing.

On the my early Javelin the wires come from under the centre of the dash and up inside the passenger windscreen pillar ,along the near side behind the headlining to the door pillar before going across to the light ,if I remember correctly the later model had a switch on the light ,where as the early one had a separate switch located in the top of the door pillar

Hi All,

I seem to remember that an early Javelin I owned had a light on the dash that only showed if the windscreen wipers were stuck 'on' but frozen with ice or snow.

This must have been due to the typical weather in Yorkshire at the time? Hopefully, global warming has sorted that out?

That is true. I also fitted such an indicator to the SA as it is all too easy to burn out the motor.
