Hold on folks, lets get the terminology right. The items that appear in my picture above are idle screws whereas jets are the brass bits a tiny hole that are marked with a number denoting the size of hole. Are we talking jets or screws?

Hello Barry,
One valid point, if the petrol is stale or the volatile components in the petrol have 'boiled off' the float will not be as buoyant as it would be in fresh petrol. This situation caused flooding in my Jupiter's carburettors until I learnt to let the float chambers empty before switching off the engine ignition. I have a switch in the electric petrol pump circuit that allows the engine to 'run out' of petrol.
Thicker needle and seat washers can upset the fuel level in the carburettor, the same applies to a thicker bowl gasket. The correct fuel level is a very fine balancing act, and is important.
Good that you found the upside down gaskets though!

The upside down gaskets were easy to find as the small cut out was at the bottom allowing fuel to pour out . As these were re con i had the old carbs and you can see the cut out position just by looking.
Being upside down the gasket holes did not line up and to make it fit the screws had been forced through the gasket so couldnt just turn them round.
As these were recon from the JCS they supplied new gaskets.
