1920 Jowett Tourer for Auction
Link below - I'm advised that this car was built from a kit of parts and is not an all original car but that's has much as I know - Peter Holden / Michael Koch-Osborne would be the members to advise upon it

This was on ebay with a dealer a while back for a very, very long time. I think the asking price was well over £20,000

Yes Barry, it was on with Vintage and Prestige for £28000 (!!!!) for at least 2 years then disappeared, obviously not sold.

The reason I remember it was the blue crimp connectors and modern coil proudly on display. Felt a bit more 'back street' rather than prestige.

Re: 1920 Jowett Tourer for Auction
I looked at this car around 5 years ago and the comments listed above do show its perhaps not a genuine car there where some bad points modern coil and blue crimp connectors at the time it was at a price i could afford but it has been put up forsale at ever increasing prices putting the things that are not correct is something i am able to do
It does have a V5C and seems correct on the DVLA
Chassis number B2080
Engine number 826
Registration number U3566
I was aware that two cars where stolen and when i see a comment it was build out of bits i became concerned i have found picture's
of the same model with BT and AX registrations numbers both do not show up on the DVLA records
infract doing a search on the web only 3 cars come up for 1920 cars
I understand this was withdrawn from the auction because of complaints and is being returned to the late owners estate as i showed an intrest a few years ago i have been asked if i would be interested
I am interested in buying an early car and becoming a member of your club and putting right all the things not correct i see nothing wrong as long as the main parts are correct but if i purchased something not on your register of vehicle's would i be excepted as a member
comments and advice would be received this would enable me to leave it or move forward
thanks

Hi John
You should get a response from the pre_war registrar as per my email.
You will certainly be accepted into the club.
The only issue maybe if you present the car for concourse when it might be suggested it goes into the 'specials' category.
I doubt it contains bits from the stolen cars but the registrar should be able to advise.

A search of the on-line vehicle records shows no finds on reg, chassis or engine. More may come from PreWar registrar.

David - I think that you are missing the point - the car is far from original - its by far & large a copy that lacks many details that is built around a Jowett drive train that came from various sources - the registration number was gained using falsified information and the car presented with forged documentation - yes - you are quite right 'It is what it is' but tell me you wouldn't be sore if you had paid the £28,000 that it was advertised for in a Essex classic car dealers showroom then found out that the car is not what it's presented to be - tell me that if you had paid even £15,000 + for it at auction then realised that history & documentation for the car is largely deceptive that you would shrug your shoulders when in reality the car is worth a fraction of either of prices quoted above ! - The point being its 30% period Jowett & 70% modern fabrication including the documentation

Re: 1920 Jowett Tourer for Auction
As long as the buyer is fully aware of the car's history then it is up to him or her.
I think the point being made here is that the few sellers in the past have not made this clear.
The club and its registrars can help acertain any Jowett's provenance.
You are of course correct that defining what is a 1920 car is very difficult. Yes there are many cars where nothing is original to the chassis number to which it is attached. Even the brass plate could be new. The cars may not even have been built to the original specification, using the same materials and to the same design. The club does have a method of judging such cars in the concourse by putting them in the specials category.
Every car club has similar discussions and within Bentley circles this often escalates into legal action when two people claim to have parts on their car from the same original car!
