When was the last time you checked
Your front torsion bar eyes
This had been sheared for a significant period
With the stud held into the chassis tube by corrosion
And on the same car The fork of the front suspension arm significantly age fractured and hardly hanging in there These are critical suspension items - you would not want them failing on you at any speed
When was the last time you checked / inspected ?

Re: When was the last you checked
Probably caused by a kerbing of the front wheel. Also check geometry of chassis tubes.
The partly sheared bolt was what failed on a special stage in the Dordogne when Amy and I were on our way to Marrakesh. Fixed by a Paris Dakar mechanic and his lathe.

Re: When was the last time you checked
Keith - I don't think that this is down to kerbing has the failed components are both offside - however there is clear evidence of accident damage to the offside front wing along with pretty heavy damage to the lower half of the A post
Not that evident in the picture but the offside A post is well out alignment / back on the offside

Re: When was the last time you checked
Usually in a side impact accident the front wheel gets a knock. Check the chassis tubes for cracks around the engine bay.
Since this was a competition car it could well have slid off the hard stuff.

Anyone got a source of these eyes? I need four, or at least one to copy.
Good memories of Bradfords.

Ok - So lower suspension arm bracket - part number 52903 (in the parts listing but physically stamped has part number 52904) - is en-route to Jowett Car Spares via myself and will provide the pattern from which stock shall be produced - supplied complete with the threaded stud - stepped washer & nyloc nut - pricing to follow once JCS have the quote returned from the manufacturing engineers - orders currently being taken - Chris

Re: When was the last time you checked
Hello Chris,
With my chassis there were cracks at the large plain 'washer' welded to the front ends of the side tubes. On the off-side, my chassis extension tube has another tube inside (a previous repair). I also made half-round short gussets and plug welded them to the chassis at the step-down in tube sizes.
Also, I think the spring arm eyes were a forging and, I am not sure, but I am fairly certain that the threaded shank is a stud tightened into the eye. The nut was a Simmonds 7/16" type (now a Nyloc). I is staying tight.
Good to know that spares have been made for us.
Thanks,
Mike A.

Re: When was the last time you checked
Before ordering, my Jupiter had serrations or scoring on the inside of the eyes to stop the bushes turning in the bore.
Do the new ones? If not what method to stop the bushes turning, has been employed?
Has a bush been pushed into the eye to check if they will fit?
I am not negative, I just feel customers should not be quality control.

Re: When was the last time you checked
David - I checked an original part today
And after a quick clean up of the surface rust
The inner face is smooth bar a few rust pits
Hence I don't think that there is requirement for inner face to carry any scoring to prevent the bush form turning and I have never come across one that has been treated as such - the bush is normally a tight fit anyway and should you wish to secure the bush I would have thought a smear of bearing loc - something like Loctite 641 Bearing Fit would suffice - Chris

Re: When was the last time you checked
Thank you, it did seem odd they went through the effort to score the eyes.
How do I order the parts? Through my local Jowett spares?

Re: When was the last time you checked
Any scouring would reduce the interference fit required for the rubber bush. Considerable pressure was required by my press in my experience to insert them.
