Sa and Sc bulkhead

Post by Keith Clements »

The SA is wider at A post 120mm than the SC 112mm on our cars. Maybe due to repair but dimensions further up do get closer but not the same.

Frank Woolley commented how well the SA cornered at the Curborough track day. This got me thinking that I did not put the early bodge of cross bracing back when I rebuilt it. So I suspect it is not necessary if you have replaced the rubber mounts with hard wood ones.
Any one prepared to measure deflection with and without cross bracing?
Oh I had also forgotten to replace the support strut where the steering column attaches to the fascia. So perhaps that is superfluous.

Keith - A post measurement differences are purely down to the fact that its a hand built car and previous repairs - I yet to come across a Jupiter that carries the same measurements has the previous car - from both previous & current Jupiter body shell restorations there is a good 10 - 15mm tolerance difference between some of the bodyshells in certain areas

I thought the curved part of the bulkhead was pressed, rather than fabricated or formed by hand. If so I would have expected the pressings to be within a 2mm.

Panels would be pressed but the assembly was by hand & eye which where you get the different tolerances - I have 3 Jupiter doors here - all nearside - all the same shape - all different measurements across the widths there is 5 mm between the narrowest & widest

Door card differences apart from them being handed is that the passenger side has a longer crescent opening for the internal door opening catch which travels forward for releasing the door catch but also can travel to the rear of the door to actuate the lock whereby the lock on the drivers side is operated by the external key barrel and the internal door opening catch only travels forwards hence the crescent radius in the door card is shorter
