1953 Spare Parts Manual
Hello all,
Does anyone have for sale (or loan) a 1953 Spare Parts Manual for PE Javelin and SC Jupiter?
Indeed, did Jowett ever produce one - or was the 1952 manual the last one to be printed?
I'm looking for an exploded diagram of an SC chassis, as per that which appears for the SA in earlier issues.
Thanks...

Hi Jowettgeoff,
The version on the official club website is dated 1952, but says it covers the PE Javelins and SC Jupiters. I guess that's the latest version.
All the best,
David

Thanks for that David. Mine is the same as yours, so we'll see if anyone has a later version.

Re: 1953 Spare Parts Manual
The latest manual I have was published in May 1952 for the 1952 PD and SA models but it has a single bound in amendment sheet for " PE 1953 Javelin and Mk1 1953 Jupiter" dated March 1953. None of the amendments are illustrated.
Although some of the illustrations date back to the original manual, this is the only copy I have that shows features for the later car like late type front suspension though I appreciate this is not what you are looking for. I presume that copies might be around that were issued between the dates I mention and therefore do not have the amended changes for the PE model.
Hope this helps.

The spare parts manual in the JT library compiled by Mike Allfrey has all models and more info. Please refer to that.

Thanks to all who replied. But an 'exploded' view of the SC chassis remains elusive....

Re: 1953 Spare Parts Manual
There is inadequate information about SA and SC models of the Jowett Jupiter. This inadequacy also applies to Jupiter body and trim items. For instance, the door trim panels for the doors are different for each side, however, the parts listing shows two-off, indicating that the one panel will suit both doors – it will not.
Taken from the Special Notes in the Spare parts list, it would suggest the SC info you are looking for is not available

Is the card door trim panel just the same cut out ? Just the opposite side is covered.

Re: 1953 Spare Parts Manual
What do you want to know about the SC chassis?
The engineering drawings section has the SA chassis and the differences are really only a big tube replacing the Forth road bridge at the back.
See the SC rebuild in best bits for pictures.

Re: 1953 Spare Parts Manual
Just odd little bits and pieces really Keith, such as the body mount rubbers and the scuttle brace which may be slightly different, and a few other tiny alterations which we're finding as we restore son Richard's SC. It's no big deal, just something of academic interest really, to know whether a PE/SC manual actually exists...

Re: 1953 Spare Parts Manual
The body mount rubbers are the same although the front four should be replaced with hard wood blocks.
The front bracing is indeed different as is the scuttle and A post steel body. The bracing is a fabricated steel cross between two plates that securely anchors the chassis tube behind the rad to the scuttle. The tubes of this brace are mirrored on the other side of the scuttle and curve over the knees of the passengers to locate on the top door hinges.
Should be pictures in the SC rebuild.

Note that we modified the battery box to accomodate a storage area with lockable cover on Amy's SC. And we did not replace the hood partition that curves around the parcel shelf.

Re: 1953 Spare Parts Manual
Also, for instance, the rear wings are not interchangeable between SA and SC (different length). So one presumes they will have a different part number. Hence it would be interesting to know if this variation ever appeared in a PE/SC parts manual. And there are many other differences of course which we all know about such as the windscreen frame, instruments etc etc...
Which brings me back to my original query - did Jowett ever produce a 1953 parts manual? I've advertised for one in the next Jowetteer, so perhaps we'll find out.

Re: 1953 Spare Parts Manual
Keith - The SA & SC bulkhead are identical - what you are comparing is a early bulkhead against a later one - the late ones had the same cross bracing and internal support tubes that come from the bulkhead to the top door hinge boxes on the A posts - see pics below of a current SA bulkhead restoration that is in my workshop - The curved tube is on the offside to clear the brake / clutch pedals & steering column - However the dashboard layout is different and the dash panel on the SC is metal & normally painted the body colour of the car
