Javelin Clutch Stop

Post by Chris Spencer »

The Javelin clutch pedal is well known for going over centre with the net result of the fork contacting the pressure plate - in extreme cases dependant upon the lead footed operative the fork can lock into the fingers of the pressure plate and lock the drivetrain up - on the last few Javelins that have been through the workshop I have resolved the problem with a adjustable pedal stop on the underside of the car - I think that the image explains it fully but you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact me - Chris

This mod was inspired by the problems experienced on the clutches of cars driven by a Swiss Jowett owner.
In extreme cases the mechanism can be strained and damaged. My advice of not over depressing the clutch is difficult for some to follow, so a stop is the solution. However, the stop will need adjusting as wear takes place which might cause many more problems if it is not, such as crunching of gears and creeping forward when supposed to be stationary.
