Cam shaft end float.

Post by k. rogers »

Could one of you experts out there please tell me the correct way of taking up the end float on the 7hp cam shaft - the one I am rebuilding has well in excess of the recommended 1 thou when trial fitted and makes contact with the back plate of the rear main bearing if pushed for and aft which surely can't be right!

Found out the best way is to assemble the cam, front bearing and oil pump gears out of the engine so that the gap between the cam shoulder and front bearing surfaces can be measured and shimmed if necessary - see, it all makes sense when somebody else explains it!

Hi Ken.

Sounds good.

Could you please let us all know, step by step, how you sorted the problem out.

May save bothering your source again.

Regards, Tony.
