So a combination of factors were found to be at fault - firstly the thickness of the gasket between the bellhousing and the gearbox is critical - it needs to be has thin has possible - any thickness reduces the length of pivot for the clutch fork - in my case 0.70mm between the gaskets made a difference of over 3mm at the end of the clutch fork - secondly and I know of several Javelins that have the same problem - for some reason the clutch pedal can take the clutch plate over centre at which stage the clutch fork interferes / contacts the pressure plate - you can still get clutch clearance on the first stage of the pedal depression - I resolved the issue by welding an adjustable pedal stop to the chassis has seen in the attached pic
