Having recently battled with Sam Glover's cylinder blocks removing seized and broken studs and inserting helicoils, I did a study of the head bolts in my possession. Now there is some variation but this is my considered opinion.
Bolts are numbered in the tightening order.
d=depth of drilling in case
h=height of top of stud protruding above head face after insertion
l=total length of stud
t1=thread in case, this is the depth of drilling =d.
t2= thread for nut, all are 17
Note that bolt 7 is the one modified to go through the water inlet and has two threads that go in the case with a waist in between with the thread removed where it passes through the water. Total thread plus waist is 82 with top thread 34, waist 24 and bottom thread 24.
My preference would be to make all bolts from A2-80 stainless as most are in contact with water.
There are six different bolts.
1= oil hole drilled d=33, h=94, l=128
4=centre long d=100, h=83, l=179
2,6= centre exhaust d=25, h=104, l=105
3,5= centre top and 10= top outside d=40, h=94, l=142
7=water inlet d=82, h=94, l=191
8,9=exhaust outside d=35, h=83, l=123
