Rareness on wheels.

Six unique British sports cars visiting Lindved.

Most modern cars are efficient but more or less boring and not always beautiful means of transportation.

Whereas old English sports cars might not be the most suitable everyday means of transportation, they hove all that their modern relative misses -soul and beauty. This Thursday stormed spectators in Lindved could see a handful of rare old English sport cars, to be more specific six beautiful and well looked after specimens of the deported brand Javelin Jupiter. Especially Jupiter is rare. There were only produced 68 specimens in the early fifties. The cars in Lindved all came from England, except for one that belongs to the veteran car collector in Lindved, Poul Verner Bertelsen, who hosted this smell get together.

Yesterday the Englishmen went on to see the Museum of Veteran cars at Egeskov and then on to Copenhagen, but some of them return to Vejle next Saturday to participate in the traditional Munkebjerg race.

A Jupiter is a fast car:

- The cars were built for racing and are fast. Mine is equipped with a four-cylinder boxer engine with 68 HP and since the car is build of aluminium it is very light and can easily go up to 170 km/h (105 Mph) says Poul Verner Berfelsen with a smile.

‘The Jupiter is also quite reliable because the beautiful sports car was constructed to cope with the tough Monte Carlo race?, Poul Verner Bertelsen explains. ‘The manufacturing company, Jowett, which also produced the Jupiter as well as a regular car called Javelin — went bankrupt in 1953. But the constructor of these cars continued his career as a designer of Jaguar sports cars and if you take a close look at an older Jaguar sports car the relationship is there.

So can you spot some of the inaccuracies and Danish journalistic licence?

Perhaps a response in the paper....

Wednesday 30th July.
Thursday 1st August. 80km to hotel in Hotel Gudenaen in Torring, then at 16.00hrs 10km to Poul Bertelsen with Jupiter in Lindvedand.
Friday 2nd August. Those only staying for the race may go 70km to Egeskov Charsel on Fyn in Korinth town. http://WWW.egeskov.dk and meet one Javelin owner. Lunch there. About 14.00hrs leave for Fredensborg ( about 200 KM ) to stay in a hotel called Country House http://www.countryhouse.dk/ £35 for a double room £22 single. Then visit my garage in Grønholt followed a Danish barby in the evening.
Saturday 3rd August.
There will be a big Dinner where we can enjoy (its in packet for racegoers and for all invited old car owners like us so this can be the Saturday evening event .

Perhaps on the way there, visit the Ole Sommer Museum in Nærum to see a Javelin, Jupiter, Bradford, a special car that has a Bradford engine and about 35 other old cars, park on race track, take bus to Cristiania . Then a harbour tour on the canal and visit the Queen’s house.

Sunday 4th August. Then back to hotel for bath and get dressed for evening dinner, or be in Copenhagen to enjoy dinner.
Monday 5th August. (racing 4 day break only) 280km to 18.00hrs ferry Esbjerg
Tuesday 6th August. Those staying for both events will have probably arranged to expose their cars to some other part of Denmark on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning joining up with the new arrivals in Fredensbourg in the evening.
Wednesday 7th August. (rally 4 Day Break only) Esbjerg to Fredensborg 280 km to stay in a hotel called Country House. The evening visiting Fredensborg , Frederiksborg or Kronborg.
Thursday 8th August. A bus (maybe an old 1950 one) tour of Copenhagen. This is the best because there is no parking for cars in Cristiania. There we see the Sommer bodied Jupiter. Then a harbour tour on the canal and visit the Queen’s house. On the way back, visit the Ole Sommer Museum in Nærum to see a Javelin, Jupiter, Bradford, a special car that has a Bradford engine and about 35 other old cars. Then visit my garage in Grønholt. Then all in own cars to a small Danish BBQ in the evening on Nivå Harbour in case of rain it will be held in my car club house in Nivå.
Friday 9th August. Leave in own cars to visit Egeskov castle on Fyn in Korinth town. http://WWW.egeskov.dk (about200km) and meet one Javelin owner. Lunch there. About 2.30 p.m. all leave for Lindved ( about 70 KM ) to visit Poul Bertelsen. He will show all his cars. Then to Munkebjerg Hotel to eat and sleep and meet some of the Danish people in old cars.
Saturday 10 August. All cars leave for Vejle for scenic run. 60-70 old cars will be starting in the town square and the mayor will send groups of 10 cars away. There will be some competition for cars and drivers, with driving in some of Denmark’s most beautiful country. Then lunch and visits to some castles. Saturday evening we are invited to a big dinner in Munkebjerg Hotel
Sunday 11th August. After breakfast, the official events are over and people can take off home or visit Ribe and then make tracks for ferry in Esbjerg at 18.00hrs.
