Hi Tony, I will discuss your problem with some friends who are meeting this morning and get back to you later. I had my cutout completely re-built by Paul and he made a lovely job of it. Do you have a three brush dynamo? Cheers Daniel

Anything to get the discharge down must be beneficial.

Hi Tony,
Have you check what the dynamo is delivering. ie is it delivering around 14volts at fast tickover. If not, then it may be the dynamo that is the problem.

Just caught up with the conversation.... The way I am thinking is a) Check what voltage is coming from the dynamo. If it is around 14volts then all is well with the dynamo(probably). This voltage is enough to trigger the cutout switch and put out the ignition switch. If voltage at dynamo is low, then that is your problem. b) The voltage is high, then can you manually move the solenoid switch with a cocktail stick? Try with engine off and then when running. If it does not want to move, then it is probably a mechanical problem with the cutout. c) If it does move, then start the engine manually trigger or flip the switch and see if it remain latched? If not, then it might be that the solenoid coil is faulty or there is a resistance in that bit of the circuit.
Regarding total current needed to run the car, then careful choice of bulb wattage in all light and indicators is important and I have indeed used special LED bulbs in the headlights. I also added, not substituted led lights for the brakes.
