Advertising Going Round In full circle

Post by AlanBartlett »

Does anyone remember the jowett sales slogan?

"The appetite of a canary, the pull of an elephant and the docility of a lamb"

Now you maybe be thinking what has that got to do with advertising in todays world of fast cars, but on the way home today on the bus, as the daily drive caddy has confirmed carburettor troubles, I was listening to the radio I heard or caught the tail end of a car radio ad, where it described the car to have animal like properties, "The torque of a tiger", When I remember the actual name of the car make and model I will update this, this made me think of the jowett slogan, but is it me or are advertisers for cars are just repeating old techniques. Thus going round in full circle. Has anyone noticed this?

Hello again Alan,

Peter Rodger's car has a lamb on the radiator cap.

Mike Kavanagh's tiller steering early Jowett has an elephant on the rad. cap.

'Mary Ellen' sometimes sports a "canary" on the rad cap, but I must admit it looks more like a sparrow - photo attached.

Geoff Duce also has "some kind of bird" on his pre-war.

Regards,

Tony.Image

My Javelin sports a small eagle on the front of the bonnet, It is attached to the chrome strip with double sided automotive tape and a discreet tie-wrap so as not to have to drill anything.
It will break off quite easily if an attempt is made to steal it or if it is knocked. Your local trophy shop is a good source of all sorts of chrome effect mascots, at a cheap cost.
I rather like driving behind a bonnet mascot in an older car.
