Hi there,
In last week's Classic Car Weekly, ( the edition published on 8th November 2007 ) there was an advertisment on page 40 for a Javelin which was being sold for spares. I contacted the owner yesterday, who told me he had found the Javelin in a garage where it had stood since 1953. He added that it was taken out into the air for the first time since 1953 last week. It is apparently one of those sad executor sales following the death of the previous owner, who had plans to restore it.
There had been several new engine parts for sale, new crank etc. but these have now been sold. Not sure of the price, but the comment from the present owner that "Even if you offered me £200, I have already agreed to sell them" perhaps gives a guide as to the cost?
Anyway, apparently everything else is there. From the description of the bonnet badge, it is a fairly early car.
I asked what would happen to the rest of the car, if it is not sold, and the reply was "Well, we would drop an A60 engine in it and take it banger racing. That was done to a couple of Javelins last year"!!
The car is apparently in Leicestershire and the contact phone number is 07961-048040. Unfortunately, I failed to note the seller's name, with whom I have no connection at all.
The new owner mentioned that the car is in good, restorable condition and it sounds much too good for a few last minutes of fame in a banger race.
It's too far for me to have a look, but perhaps there is a member somewhere more local? It could be a useful source of spares or a winter restoration project?
All the best,
David

Hi Len,
That's excellent news! Many thanks for your help. I am sure there will be someone who either wants the car to restore or at least needs some essential spares, and your report will be a great help.
All the best,
David

Hello David,Have been to see that Javelin, sory to say that it is an absolute no,no.More rotten than abasket of fruity things.
It is an early utility model no.D9 D 6002
It is full of mostly old spares many of which are not even Jowett. On the plus side all of the glass is intact, and the front and rear screens are intact complete with the chrome surrounds. The other chrome strips are there but not much chrme left on them. The owner said that everthing inside the car had been sold to an obscure buyer so smeone is in for ashock. As for the red herring that it would be used for banger racing by using an A60 engine ithink my eleccy t/brush would be enough to shake it to bits.I think Noel Stokoe would like to know for his records.
Best regards Len Johnson.

Dear Len,
Thank you very much for taking the trouble to go and view the Javelin. I was sorry to hear that it was such a 'basket case'. You never know what you will find.
As you say, there may be something there useful to someone. I wonder what the mystery buyer has bought?
Many thanks for making the effort. Are you going to Crieff?
Best regards,
David
