Usernames, passwords and security

JowettTalk and JowettGallery are separate systems for a very good reason. JowettTalk is for those interested in Jowetts to chat together. JowettGallery is the library of the Jowett car clubs and as such is only open to paid up club members.

You do have to register on JowettTalk to post articles. That means you must fill in a form that you pull up by clicking on Register at the top of a page of JowettTalk. The Administrator reads this form before activating you, so that you can login and use the forum. You cannot login before he activates you and trying to register twice does not help!

It could be a few days before you are activated. Activation may be delayed (since the Administrator will send you an email to which you should reply) if you do not state your interest in Jowetts, perhaps by saying which Jowett you own. It helps when you register if you also send an email to the webmaster@jowett.org saying to which JowettClub you belong, or your interest in Jowetts. If you are a paid-up member of more than one club affiliated to the JCC then please so indicate.

Both JowettTalk and JowettGallery allow you to remember the credentials on your PC so that you automatically log-on, and you do not have to sign in every time.

If you did not set up JowettTalk and JowettGallery with the same user names and passwords, then clearly you must use the appropriate ones for each. You can change passwords at any time and so make them the same.

Security is extremely important to protect our assets and our personal information. It is very easy for hackers to crack simple passwords. So please can everyone use ones that are at least 8 characters long, 15 is preferred. Use numbers and upper and lower case letters is also advisable. An easy to remember phrase is best with say the vowels as numbers or uppercase.

Please also make sure you do not post phone numbers, postal addresses or email addresses on JowettTalk. The secure Private Message or JowettTalk email should be used.
