The tail ends of 2 Javelins welded together, would make a great caravan in the classic style ,and still save a lot of mechanical parts.
Better than stripping them and then sending the bodies to the crusher.
Did I say that? Must have been the rum talking.

I too have vaague recollections of the pivoted bradford but cant remember any detail. the fitting of 2 boxes happened a few times to both pre war ;& bradfords & if I remember rightly roy bradock had one tht performed prodigious feats of towing during the war. Can anybody elaberate about that one.
there is certainly a bradford 'trials car' with ,I think, sharock blower - started life in uk and moved dto south africa with owner - presumably still out there

A Roy Braddock Story
George, I remember as a little ankle biter Roy telling me the story of his lorry. I think its the one Michael Fishwick has. He got a phone call at his garage in Marple saying a large American car had broken down at the bottom of Dan Bank. Anyone who knows the area will immediatley realize the difficulties. There is a junction at a set of traffic lights It was blocking this junction. So off he went with the pickup. The disgruntled well to do in the car took one look at the pickup and asked when the tow truck was arriving. He explained this was it. They were rude and ungrateful. So Roy just hitched it up (I don't know what sort of car it was I'm afraid). He traversed Dan Bank in bottom gear easily but then took them on a roundabout trip to his garage. By his own admission Roy gave them a rather bumpy and overly long ride. By the time he pulled into the garage they all had a faintly green demenour. They got out gladly and strangley the cat seemed to have got their tongue as there were no more complaints about the tow truck.

as memory serves me it was definately not the 8hp lorry of Mike Fishwick ( I dont think there is room for 2 gearboxes on that as it is built on the pleasure car cross braced chassis not the ladder frame commercial.)
the one you refer to was an early thirties 7hp eith the 1930 car radiator so probably 32 or 33. and I don't know if it had two 3 speed boxes or a 3 & a 4. However irrespective of that the lowest forward ratio was of course double reverse! The version of the tale I remember was that roy pulled an american army petrol tanker up dan bank with it, presumably in double reverse! I have often wondered if he had also fitted a double radiator or at least a greatly oversize header tank.
has anybody out there got a two gearboxer?
george

Roy Braddock story
Hello George
No arguments from me, it was a long time ago and as I say I was very young at the time. I'd listen a lot more closely now if dear old Roy was still with us.
