Colours
Thanks for continuing info on the air filter subject.
Iam trying to decide on the final colour for my Javelin, and it occured to me to ask if there is an 'official' or generally accepted list, chart, or record of the original colours that I could refer to.

Hi Tim.
You can't beat black as a Javelin colour in my opinion.
The 'maroon' is next in line like Bob Mercer's HOT 3 (new reg. now and with a new owner)).
I think the lighter colours are a little bit insipid.
But of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Regards,
Tony.

Hi,
Tony and I, both resident in Gods own county, must have very similar thoughts on Jowetteering.
Of course black is the only colour suitable for the discerning gentleman owner of a Javelin....just paint it black, put the chrome back, get out a garden chair and a pint of good northern real ale and sit and look at it gleaming in the sun. You won't need a telly any more ! I think mine is called Jet black. I seem to remember the lads at the paint shop saying there were basically only three blacks but dozens of whites.
I am now going to celebrate my 100th post with a cup of Lancashire tea. Nite Nite

Really? The colour of my Javelin can be called many things (and I for choosing it 30years ago!(I do agree about the light colours being insipid though)

Thanks Tim, of course, as Tony says, burgundy would be my second choice as well, I remember the lovely car owned by the late Dave Ellis.
You're always welcome to partake of a cuppa if you're up here. I am still keepinmg that windscreen for you. I once had a dark metallic green car which looked quite good as well.

Jim Miller and I discussed colours prior to him shipping his Jup over to Le Mans. What about a similar job for a Javelin for 2012?

G'dday From The Sunny (& Windy) South,
My father always said - and I believed everything he said - the only true black is what they used to paint Sunbeam motorcycles in the 1930s. Most likely it is now impossible to mix and in those days before the nanny-society was created, full of all sorts of nasties.
My Javelin still looks superb, after a good polish by 'T' Cut Ted Cockrell, in its 1951 coat of black applied by Briggs
As to other colours - well, I' a bit of a 'Green' man my self. For me there is only one green for a Javelin, and that is the metallic Connaught Green,
The only other green worth considering is Vanwall Racing Green. That dates me! Tony Vandervell got it absolutely right.
After saying all that, a well turned out Javelin in Athena Grey with maroon trim takes an awful lot of beating.
Regards to all,
Mike Allfrey.

Colour
I chose my Javelin becasue it was not black! A nice blue, on the dark side. Well that's my choice.

Javelin colurs
See page 215 of "The Complete Jowett History" for all of the original colours for the Javelins. I painted mine a sort of Maroon which was a colour for 1949/50 De Luxe models. We found the colour we liked by touring all of the local car dealers and finding a car with the colour we wanted. It was a simple task to get the paint code and then purchase a modern paint. It was a General Motors colour and I can easily buy touch up paint for it.
Somewhere I have the ICI colour mixes that I was sent from England by a club member.

Factory Black or Marroon
BUT
2 coats of Clear over the top the bottom having a pinch of peril...the old power type..the same stuff the ladies apply to eyelids
about 1/4 teassppon per pot of paint
Black, a purple
maroon a red and bit of blue
blue a bit of red and purple
yellow /browns bit of blue
This not enough to change the orginal clolour, but enough so when the street lights or the sun hits it gives the car a nice subtile glow.
