Ebay Jowett

Post by Chas1952 »

After loads of bids on e bay for differing items, I managed to "win" the Bradford auction. Comes with old style logbook etc and original plate.
I have yet collect her.

I assume there is a club for the "Bradford" and are spares easily sourced ?

Chas :)

Well done Chas 1952.

It's good to see someone buying an old vehicle without researching Clubs and spares availability.

Fortunately you have committed to a vehicle which enables you to join what arguably is the best Car Club in the world, and definitely the oldest one make Club - (1923).

Perhaps a private email to Paul Beaumont (see 'memberlist' above) will give you all the lowdown on the Club and how to join.

Paul is the Jowett Car Club's Bradford Registrar.

May I also suggest that you let us know your real name. I think you can change it by writing to the Webmaster. Chas 1952 is rather impersonal.

You'll not regret joining the JCC.

Regards,

Tony.

Thanks Tony,
I feel like am an "old" member already.
I live fairly close to where the Jowett factory used to be, in Idle Bradford.
I bought the old lady on a whim, after a very brief discussion with SHE who must be obeyed.
I need something for my retirement, although that is a fair way off yet, and a complete-ish Bradford seemed ideal.

I can remember seeing these little van's when I was a child, in the fifties.

Apparently the engine is seized, but I know of a good motor engineer in Bradford, West Yorks..who is expert at restorations.

Will have to give her the once over when I have collected her.

Regards

Chas: -

Welcome aboard! You will have lots of fun with your Bradford - Tony is absolutely right, you have joined 'probably the best car club in the world' (well, you will do!).

I started with a Bradford in 1963 when I was at college in Liverpool, and the affection for this make is what keeps me going today!

You have left it a bit late to buy for your retirement - I bought my 1930 Long Four in 1966 with this aim in mind, but now that the magic date is receding fast into the distance, I don't seem to have that much more time than I did before!

However, with the likes of Tony - and many, many others - on your side, you can't help but be glad you bought the Bradford.

Keep us all up-to-date with progress. If you haven't already done so, just have a look at the Pre-war section, and see the 'story' of Alan Bartlett's pre-war revival. A lesson to us all in perseverence.

Bradford for sale

They seem to be coming out of the ground at this ebay site.

With good luck and a following wind I will be collecting my Bradford from the same seller.

A utility body would suit me, but I have a cunning plan to restore her as a van.

Reading Ian's article has inspired me further, and I am looking forward to the challenge.

It has gone awfully quiet!

How did you get on with the 'removals'?

What horrors / treasures have you found?

Hope you haven't been frightened off!

I know that Derek Cox bought the other one!
Meanwhile the more or less finished one in brown with contrasting body mouldings is advertised in this month's Classic Van and Pick-up together with a green Van.
