Mine is burnt out, and am advised that the wire is not available so it cannot be rewired.

'Wiring' wire or resistance wire?

'Wiring' wire should not be a problem - as long as you don't mind non-original type.

Burnt out resistor wire might be tricky - apart from the wire itself, the senders are not designed with rewinding the resistor element in mind!

I am sure there are spares available, but if not then it would be a very interesting exercise for the 'My Jowett Experiences' section!

Greetings all.

Hopefully the sender didn’t actually burn out . . . overheated and fused wires in the petrol tank could lead to a modicum of . . . . shall we say . . . embarassing trouble! :oops: I suspect the wire has worn through from the rubbing of the wiper.

(As an aside, my Austin Princess, which runs almost exclusively on LPG, has carried for almost all it’s life, about a ¼ tank of petrol in it’s petrol tank (not the SAME petrol I hasten to add :)) . . . it wore through the resistance wire . . . yes, you guessed it . . . at the ¼ position!. Princesses have a very fancy submersible pump, filter and sender in one unit, which cost a very fancy price . . . about $250 new from memory! I had a secondhand spare, otherwise the replacement unit would have been worth more than the car, at the time!)

I wonder, does the “burnt outâ€

They list replacement Smiths senders, Need to check the total resistance of the winding againest a known good jupiter sender.

I'm certainly not the best qualified to be giving advice, but, I had the same problem when getting my Jupiter restored. I got new old stock from Dennis Sparrow. He had a Javelin one and if you turn it one screw round from North South, it fits without fouling any baffles. I won't vouch for its accuracy but it seals well and gives me good guidance on the petrol level. Those in the know please quietly shudder. Mine is an SA tank I'm not sure if your tank is either SC or a little special in other ways Peter, I seem to recall it being "unusual" if memory serves.
