Post by AlanBartlett »

I received an email from a Treve Mildren hes waiting confimation on his jowett talk registration here is a copy of the email he sent me, its enquiring about his suspected jowett bradford gearbox.

Hi Alan

I have been waiting for my membership to the Jowett web site to be approved for a few days now and am just about to give up.

But first I thought I’d see if I could find a email address from a recent poster – you’re the first to pop up – Sorry !

Ok the story.

I was clearing out around the back of the mother in laws garage at the weekend and found a weird and wonderfull gearbox being used as a weight to keep something down.

The box I believe is a Jowett Bradford unit. 3 speed.

The gearbox is “apparentlyâ€

Old seized gear boxes....Are not junk...the cogs/shafts/bearings all could be junk....BUT the syncros are made of brass...
These parts un worn are not readly avalible...
I scored , with the help of the guys in the NTh section NZ JCC an old bradrord truck, oiled up with panels and parts, that had been laying in a paddock for decades...
From the old gearboxes I got 2 sets of near brand new synicros..managed to rebuild 1 box and fully recondition another.
I have been waiting for my membership to the Jowett web site to be approved for a few days now and am just about to give up.
This is not the 1st instance of just giving up

Should membership be more open?
Both in forums and Albums?
To encourage more to get into Jowetts, post incidences of parts etc,
A 'closed shop' policy does nothing to encourgage new club members and enthusists...in fact it is a serious discouragement...who wants to join a club that appears to be 'clicky'

I am sorry if people have had trouble registering.
Did they have problems with the form?
Did they read this message below?

Please use your First Name and Surname separated by a space as the USERNAME, unless you have an objection; but this will make chat difficult on the forum. As well as completing this form, you must send an email to the Administrator stating your chosen Username and reason for wishing to join the forum. If you do not do this YOU WILL NOT BE ACTIVATED and be able to use the forum. This is necessary to prevent undesirable registrations. It might take a few days for the Administrator to activate your account. Please be patient. If you are visually impaired or cannot otherwise read this code please contact the Administrator for help.

Did they not send an email as requested?
Did they not use their real name but a pseudonym?

The last two questions would both have to be true for me to miss a registration! I delete about 30 registration requests per day from obvious pedlars of sex and drugs.

Of course things can go wrong; as their email may be recognised as junk by my email filter; but they would also have to have used a pseudonym or have a very dubious name!
JowettTalk is open to all people with an interest in Jowett's; but that interest must be expressed in registration. This is necessary to protect the site from malicious posts.

Alan.

Did you get those pictures of the gearbox (and other parts) from Trevor yet?
