G'day all,
Just pulled down a PD engine supplied by the Aus club, thanks Mike.
Engine castings are in good condition and crankshaft is in one piece even though it looks like an original slab sided / no crankpin holes Jowett shaft! Is this possible?
Pistons are on verge of collapse with top rings in pieces and the crankshaft bearings show severs signs of stress but the shaft journals seem quite good. Camshaft extremely worn on lobes and one follower face is dished alarmingly! Heads look good but valves have recessed quite a bit.
Anyway, to the problem.
I need to remove the cylinders but of course the locating tab and head gasket support tube are well corroded in place. What is the best procedure to get them and the liners out?
Incidentally, do the locating tabs serve a real purpose? Wouldn't the Heads prevent any rotation of the liners?
Cheers,
Paul

I have some disks .7 cm thick which fit under the liners. They have a hole in the centre through which a 15 cm long 10mm threaded bar fits. This has nuts and washers at both ends. The top passes through a 1.5 cm thick mild steel plate straddling the block which is held clear by an aly block 5x1x10cm at each end to just miss the top of the liner. By tightening the nuts up evenly on both liners the two liners can be extracted. May take some pictures later...

Thanks Keith,
l will make something up along those lines. Is the tab essential when re- installing liners? I realise that the head gasket support is important but what do the liner tabs actually do apart from ensuring correct orientation of the liners when fitting them?
Cheers all.
