Javelin MUR325 - whereabouts?

Post by AlanOwen »

Hello,

I'm hoping someone might know what happened to my late grandfather's Jowett Javelin - pictures attached.

My grandfather owned several Jowett's during his driving career, including a Bradford which had the registration FAM800 - though we know that no longer exists.

His last Jowett was this Javelin MUR 325. He ran it in the late 50s / early 60s. It was taken off the road sometime in the 1960s owing to some work being needed and it was put in a lock up garage in Welwyn Garden City where he lived. His intention was always to restore it during his retirement - he retired in the late 1970s.

After the Jowett was taken off the road he moved onto a run of BMC / Leyland / Rover cars, a Mini, MG 1100 and 1300, a Triumph Dolomite, Acclaim and Rover 214, before downsizing to a Nissan Micra which he drove up until a couple of years before his death in 2010.

Sadly he never got around to restoring the Javelin so at some point in the late 80s (I'm estimating between '86 and '89) it was removed from the lockup and placed for sale - and it sold I believe for restoration. These photos were taken on the day it was being collected by its new owner, who I assume owned the Volvo 240 on towing duties.

It's not showing as taxed or MOT'd on the DVLA website, which means it's either, sadly, no more, or more hopefully either under restoration or hiding in a barn or garage somewhere awaiting a bit of TLC.

Any information would be much appreciated.
