Pre War gearbox - 3 speed

Post by BarryCambs »

I'm starting to accumulate bits and pieces which are of no use to my car, so thought I should try and move some parts on. The 1932 ex boat engine discussed in the post below has a 3 speed box which looks to be in good condition. It was apparently working well in the boat 10 years ago. If someone wants to collect it, then it's free to a good home. What would be fantastic is if someone had a 4 speed to swap it with! If no one is interested at the moment, I'll donate it to JCS

I have a colleague who travels occasionally between Cambridge and Bradford to visit family, who could potentially drop it off sometime.

I bought a four speed box from John Box earlier this year, hoping it might fit my 1930. It doesn't as it is too long for a direct replacement.

I have checked that all appears to be complete and in good order, including the lever.

I would be pleased to do a swap for a 3 speed but I am in Wales at present so I am not in an immediate position to take receipt.

If you are prepared / able to wait I could make any necessary arrangements to get together.

Hi Ian

That sounds ideal! There's no urgency to move it if I know it's got a home to go to, I was just worried I'd be falling over something I couldn't use for the next 20 years. In truth, I wonder if the 4 speed box is a bit of an over complication in flat Cambridgeshire. First is so low, that a lot of the time on main roads I use second to pull away to get speed up a bit quicker in traffic. Just let me know when you have time and we can sort something out.
