10/4 fuel gauge
Having trouble with the fuel gauge on my 10/4 it will not read any higher than 1/4 tank even when full any ideas would be appreciated
have just purchased a javilin and will need all the help i can get

The cork is not floating! It may well be electrical. Make sure the sender is well earthed . Run an earth wire directly back to the battery and see if it changes. Also check the voltage on the sender. I think it should be about half battery volts. Also check the earth and voltage on the gauge.
I should think the 10/4 is a moving iron meter so the tank coil is high resistance when full and low when empty. Thus put a meter across the sender with the gauge wire disconnected and see what is the reading when empty and when you fill it up. Also check there is not a pool of petrol under the car.

Hi Keith yes I get a pool of fuel on the floor when the tank is full seems to come from the top middle of the tank .stops leaking after I drive 300yards

I removed the tank unit ,cork float was fine but the float arm was seized plenty of WD and gentle pressure got it free .Made up a sender gasket and refitted it ,now I have a working fuel gauge.
