Reversing light Switch

Post by tonygunton »

I wish to put an automatic reversing light on my Jupiter and understand that some deluxe Javelins had this as a feature. Can anyone tell me where this is mounted on the gearbox as there may be a blanked hole or boss on my similar gearbox. Does any one know what switch was used and if there were any internal extras in the gear box to enable it to work?

The bracket uses two of the existing studs of the side cover and bends towards the top of the gearbox. It has a momentary switch that is a just a button that gets depressed when the gear change lever (JA50095) swings into reverse position.

I made up a bracket with a modern micro-switch and if you are not using an LED reversing light you should fit a relay. My system also uses the reversing switch to lock out the overdrive so I fitted a single pole two way relay so I use the normally on and normally off positions.

Tony, Contact Jowett Car Spares. When I worked in stores, they had the brackets and switches in stock.

As has been said, they are very easy to fit. The bracket fits on existing gerabox studs at the top. The existing lever arm on the gearbox top pushes the button switch fitted into the bracket to make a circuit. When you get the bracket and switch it will be obvious how it fits as it can only fit one way! I did mine when I rebuilt my Jupiter.
