Bradford tuning?

Post by Keith Andrews »

I have been thru manuals and gallery, there are some things I cant find
1/What is the idle speed ?
I have found 110 to 120 rpm nice.
2/What is the dwell angle?
Setting points at 11/1000 gives me about 28 to 30*

Firing is TDC..If this is set statically, then checked with timinglight it appeares the centfical is coming off to early giving 3 to 4 degs @120 rpm??? a sign of weakened springs?

keeping in mind pool fuel had an octane about 80 ORM (72 MM) and modern fuel is 91, an increase in timing of around 6 to 8* in therory is required without increasing DCR...so the weakened springs and higher idle is a good thing...the draw back is the total cent is lower at a lower rpm.

Maybe setting timing (static) at somewhere between 6 and 8* ???

Also since modern fuels have a higher SG, I would minagin that the jets would have to be reduced a little to prevent rich running??

The above is on a worn engine, with a rebuilt dizzy and carb, so the mixtures, idle, and points, dizzy cam are all stable.
My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
