Javelin in Bonhams Beaulieu auction

Post by k. rogers »

The late Nigel Snelling-Colyer's Javelin in going to be auctioned, among a few other prestige cars which belonged to this club member, at the high profile Auction held the same weekend as the autojumble. As I remember, the car is a fine example and sounded extremely quiet mechanically as I remarked to Nigel when he gave me a lift to the pub in it at the Goodwood Revival a few years ago.

Indeed it is a fine Javelin. We will be having a celebration of Nigel after sign-on at Goodwood on Thursday evening if you would like to join the Jowett taxi contingent, both at the bar in the Stables and later at the campsite.

It is a nice car with good mechanicals and a nice interior however, although it presents well it does require paintwork in quite a few areas - the price guide is a typical over valuation by a auction house at £8,000 - £12,000 - personally I would guide it at £6,000 - £8,000 - to have the paintwork sorted professionally would be in the £2,000 - £4,000 region and once completed it would be an excellent car

Hi All,

I see from the results that the Javelin sold yesterday for £4,370 inc. buyers premium. Obviously well below what we expected!

Personally - a bit of bargain but that is auctions for you - I would not have paid above £6,000 for it - has for the below expected - the fact that the auction house had listed it with a well over it's true value guide price which is why I didn't attend the auction / bid on the car in the first place - serves me right then - There has been several Javelin sales recently - reasonably presentable - running - on the road cars in decent order all in the £4,000 - £6,000 price range - it begs the question then has why other opportunist vendors price non running Javelins which have been stood rusting for years and beyond the point of a sensible restoration in the £1,500 / £2,000 + price range - makes no sense to me whatsoever

Somebody had a bargain - I hope they do what's necessary and enjoy what would be an excellent car! Nigel's other cars achieved excellent results!
