Redex In Vintage Jowetts

Post by jemima »

Can the team tell me please, whether Redex is suitable for use in my 1938 8 HP car?
I want to clean the engines tubes. And I believe Redex will do this. But. I don't want to damage a 79 yr old engine with a modern engine additive.

Any advice appreciated.

Redex is not a new product but undoubtedly is now a different formula. Originally it was an upper cylinder lubricant when pool petrol gummed up the valve guides. This is no longer the case. If you are trying to get rid of the gum built up in the petrol feed and carb then, perhaps because of a long time standing, then look for some other method or product..
Take the carb off and give it a thorough clean, which is best done in an ultrasonic bath. Take the tank off and give it a good clean.
The best solution is just use the car a lot. Modern petrol should clean it all up.

Thank you, Keith.

I think that is the answer. Use it!

The car is running smoothly, and I think I will leave it. If it ain't broke, etc.
