Jowett 8/10hp manual in Gallery

Post by Forumadmin »

From Michael Allfrey.

This Jowett 8 manual in the Gallery is my ‘restoration’ of some pre-war Jowett 8 and 10 h.p. information. You will probably find it a bit ‘colonial’, but I feel that such things should be preserved. It comes from Volume 1 of British Repair Manual – Cars and Trucks. The Foreword to the book, which introduces the Jowett portion in my document, comes from the front of the book. It is sad to say that the same words apply today. That means that, with regard to motor car manufacturing, we are on the outer (in a forgotten world). A friend has a Holden Captiva SUV thing, probably there is a same version Vauxhall, from Asia, which experienced a computer malfunction. This was repaired to the extent that the engine would start happily, but now when the wiper control is operated, the flashing indicators operate, and, the indicator switch now operates the wipers! Apparently nothing can be done to resolve the problem and no one is at all interested now, because the vehicle’s warranty has expired. Nor was there any warranty related to the repair.
The book has technical information for Ford, Hillman, Jowett, Singer, Standard and Vauxhall cars. Trucks covered are Bedford, Dennis, Guy, Leyland and Thornycroft. Some famous and admired names there!
Strangely, there is no wiring diagram at the end of the Jowett section, whereas other makes have diagrams.
I think a crudely photo copied piece I used in the Bradford project came from Volume 2, and maybe a later edition at that.
My copy has suffered water or dampness contamination, but I think the illustrations reproduced OK for our purposes.
Enjoy a spot of colonial reading,
Keith Clements

Some people took great delight in changing the keyboard type or language setting on computers or TV sets. Complete havoc ensues.
