Jupiter Seat Lever (hinge) broken

Post by gregdanvers »

Hi
The driver's seat lever (ie the hinge that allows the seat to pivot back & forward - see photo attached) has snapped on my Jupiter - does anyone have any knowledge of who has made these up in the past (they don't appear to be held in stock in UK or NZ) - or should I just get one made up locally?
Thanks Greg D'Anvers, Auckland NZ

I assume you have tried JOAC. If you do get some made then how about making a few so we have them available.

As part of my slow effort to create a drawing of the Jupiter bench seat, I have prepared a drawing of the seat hinge [below].
I removed one of my hinges from the seat that is original to my car (E3 SA 877 R) and took the dimensions from that. I have to say that the hinge is rather agricultural (no offense intended to farmers) and unbecoming to a hand-built classic car, but it may reflect the haste with which the Jupiter body was designed. The two arms of the hinge are held together rather tenuously by a rivet, but a countersunk head screw and dome nut might be a better solution.

If anyone were to have some hinges manufactured, this drawing should be acceptable to most machine shops.
