Halomar/Hylomar

Post by Tim Neville »

Perhaps someone could put me straight. I have noted mention of Halomar (green and blue) on a number of occasions, is this the same as Hylomar (universal blue and RTV) which I have found mention of on Google?

Which is the best 'goo' for general gasketting and pressure sealing in peoples' opinion? I note that some are silicon based and some not, is there an application specification between the two?

Loctite gasketmaker orange
Also bathroom grade Silicone RTV
Surfaces must always be clean and as flat as possible, in particular inlet/carb surfaces.
I have used these in many applications without gaskets where the there is no requirement that the gasket is also used as a spacer.
The lockite have used in carbs, without gaskets (jowett and Holley) being very carefull there is no spillage of material internally
The Bathroon grade RTCv in places like rear camaro tail light lens and 10 bolt diff head covers
The former is where a 1/4 " rubber gaslet is used to seal..here I clean 1 surface and a thin layer of grease or vasaline on the other to stop sticking.
A thick bead is applied and unit the not completly torqued up for 4 or 5 hrs, then final torque
The same tecnque used for the diff cover without a gasket..no leaks for over 20yrs
For places where head and inlet manifold studs go into water jackets, Locktite thread teflon sealer

Hylomar is blue; it is NOT silicone. It is a high spec gasket sealant used by Rolls Royce.
