Rear Light Bulbs

Post by Robin Fairservice »

I need to get a new rear light/brake bulb for my 1950 Javelin Deluxe. The old bulb is described as a 12v 21/5W. Is there a Lucas reference number for this? The Parts List only has a Jowett number. Perhaps I could change to LED bulbs. Does any one have a make and reference of the equivalent bulb?

I searched Jowett.net for Lucas.
to get this link.

It is all in the Technical Notes. well almost, if it is not, let us put it there :!:
Note they are Small Bayonet Cab (SBC) with height OFFSET pins. Lucas 380 BAY15D. US type 1157 . Note the pins are opposite each other radially, not as in some bulbs 90 deg offset. I think these fit the early Jav as well.
Possible source here. or cheaper here

If you want LED and are prepared to pay £30 each then...here.
Cheaper but Negative ground only. Lucas_British_Replacements

If you would like Robin I will bring some over for you. Please let me know. Hope to see you soon!

I bought a type 1157, but it had offset pins whereas my 1950 Javelin doesn't. I presume that we are supposed to guess which way round the bulb goes in! The store then found ones with parallel pins, which fitted. Their number is 1176.
