Spark Plugs

Post by paul wilks »

I realise over the years this subject has been discussed however......

Currently my Javelin is fitted with Champion L86C.

I have read in this website that amongst others NGK spark plugs are recommended, specifically NGKBP6HS.

I have compared the various alternatives re dimensions etc and read that NGKBP6HS are identical to L86C EXCEPT the NGK model is shown as "projected".
The L86C is described as "Non-projected". The other alternative NGK plugs seem to be B6HS and B5HS which are described as "Non-projected", in other words they seem absolutely identical to the Champion L86Cs currently fitted.
Presumably the "projected" bit is reflected in the P part of BP6HS.

My questions are(!)
1. Has anyone experienced problems with the "projected" i.e. NGKBP6HS spark plugs in their Javelins?
2. Does anyone use NGK6HS OR NGK5HS and what are the relative merits of either?

Thanks for your patience!

Paul, I have been using NGK BPR6HS for over 10 years in the Jupiter without any issues. This is with skimmed heads and flat top pistons and a with a 9.5 compression ratio of 9.5 : 1.

I fit a new set of plugs every year regardless of mileage. Hope this helps

Thanks Drummond. There's no chance of the "projection" fouling my Pistons in my standard javelin engine is there?
