Re: LXT 259
A little more poking about and photos...
The wheel boss is fixed and no longer operates the horn. Instead there is a bakelite button on the left of the dash that has replaced it. I tried to take the top off the boss, but the screw holding it on was very stubborn and so I left it.
The tachometer is referred to being fitted in 1965 in the notes left by the third owner. It looks like a 60's 'off the shelf' thing to me, rather like what you found on later MGB's, but happy to be corrected!
The mystery stalk on the left of the steering column is for indicators. But a twist of the old mechanism and you could hear the faint tick tock of the clockwork beavering away. So there is certainly life in the old switch yet. It may be that I return the indicators to that mechanism and adapt the stalk to an overdrive: I do have a spare LH type that came with the Scimitar which may function. Only one way to find out.
What is astonishing is the degree of preservation this dash shows. Early in May it will be a full day assessment at the workshop and then I will be able to see exactly what I have let myself in for...

Re: LXT 259
I also had a poke about under the dash, so here is the cat's cradle of wiring and the Flash Gordon style heater...
Re: LXT 259
Heater looks like original type, so no drama there, wiring doesn't though - JCS sell wiring looms for the Javelin, worth exploring perhaps
Jack.
