Javelin front hub part
Has anyone a really good unworn Corner Spacer (Part No. 54086) for a Javelin front hub please?
I've been unable to get one through the usual channels ie JCS and Bill Lock.
Thanks
Paul

Not difficult to turn up, basically a cylinder with a chamfer on one inside corner.
I will have a look in my spares, if I have two you can have one.

Found one in the spares, but is is not unworn. Will clean it up and can post tomorrow. What happened to the previous one?
If it was the oil seal bearing surface then I would simply fit sealed for life bearings. You can do an axle for less than £20. No more greasing, no more grease on brake shoes. See JT topic on subject....
If you want an unworn one then I can make you one. But probably be about £25.

Re: Javelin front hub part
Hello Keith
My problems with the front nearside hub are legendary so I won't go into them again here! At the NEC in November Bill Lock suggested my hub problems could be a variety of things.
Firstly he suggested was a hub problem but since I have tried three different hubs both with sealed for life bearings/with standard grease required bearings, I don't think it can be simply a hub problem.
Secondly he suggested it could be the Corner Spacer if it had 'lost' its parallel character i.e. it was worn. I have always chosen what appears to be the best Corner Spacer, some of them look really badly worn. Bill thought he had some new ones in stock but he hasn't.
Thirdly it could be the stub axle which was worn.
Since I had eliminated the first I thought I'd go for the second before embarking on a replacement stub axle! I think Bill said he could supply one if needed.
I have a replacement hub complete with sealed bearings ready to fit.
Bearing in mind Bill's comments re a new Corner Spacer it might well be worth while my taking you up on your offer of a new one for £25.
What do you think?
Paul

Re: Javelin front hub part
Paul,
As per phone call. Parts list here. http://jowett.net/Parts/Javelin-Jupiter ... alogue.htm
Note that if you CTRl +F and search for the part , you will find that there are different parts for earlier axle. Since the stub axle may not match the spacer and end cone you have that could be the issue.
As I said on call, check rotation and play after assembly and before final assembly use some engineers blue to see if there is any distortion anywhere.
I do not know the dimensional differences between early and new parts so that you can identify them. However, I could find out if required as I have both here somewhere! Please take some micrometer readings on the stub axles you have and see if they are different.
