Jupiter on YouTube
Is this film well-known? It shows a Jupiter in period taking part in some rather boring driving tests...interesting that the bronze Jupiter has a cream tonneau -I thought that red upholstery and hood was the norm for the bronze cars...

Re: Jupiter on YouTube
Was that taken in the Channel Islands or some other non-mainland venue as the number plates do not look UK?

I think it is Cyprus, signs show the Famagusta Rally,.It is probably at a military base some kind of arena , maybe parade ground ? Or is Famagusta in Crete? Looks warm anyway! Bob

Your eyes are better than mine. Where did you see that sign! Famagusta is in Cyprus, so it is very likely this was on a British base there.

Re: Jupiter on YouTube
Jupiter E1 SA 164R was shipped to the Cyprus Jowett agent 26 June 1951. Colours Copper with beige upholstery
The colour is right for the YouTube film clip
Known to have still in Famagusta, 1973.
First owner Elpherios Prastitis used in local events (Famagusta Motor Club) 1951-55)
He gets a mention in the rally driving tests in 23rd of May 1954
At some stage it went into storage in Famagusta until the Turks invaded in 1974.
The car believed destroyed by the Turks when they invaded Cyprus in 1974 and captured Famagusta, ejecting the Greek Cypriots and looting the town.

Re: Jupiter on YouTube
I have just found this thread and thought I would add some further comment. I visited Mr Prastitis - who was a very nice chap -(I hope I recall the date correctly) in 1998 whilst visiting Cyprus. He was from Famagusta and owned the major VW Agency up until the invasion in 1974. Seeing the invasion and knowing the Turks were close to town, he and his family were advised to leave. He fled the town and took with them just what they could get into vehicles to drive to safety, finally stopping in Limmasol. Here he then started a small 'back street repair' business. The garage had a large tree for shade in the yard and an outside ramp!
He left behind all his stock of new and used cars, his full dealership and lost everything including his home and possessions. He did however manage to drive out his Maroon Javelin and he still had this in a container in his yard. It was in very good condition and well maintained, he used the car for special occasions and Sunday outings. He was a keen motor sport fan and used his Jupiter on many events. When I saw a photo of his Jupiter at his garage it was a plain light colour and could possibly have been cream or white, so he must have had a respray at some point. The Jupiter, much to his deep regret, was left behind as he could not get it away, He always held the absolute belief that one day he and his family would return to their home, sadly still not to be the case.
