Not a Javelin tank!

Other expensive body panels for a 'Javalin' also listed by another seller.

Expensive, possibly, but you try making one for that price!

Even a slight ding in a bonnet can be difficult to get correct, so one with little rust to repair might be a better option.

No doubt JCS and many other long-standing owners have a few lying around.

Andy is correct it's certainly not a Javelin tank, has for the same seller asking £90 for a Javelin bonnet (and he can't even spell Javalin correctly) Its overpriced and most certainly available from JCS at a more modest price - along with most other Javelin outer panels - the panels more than likely will require some repair - I have yet to come across a used Javelin panel that doesn't - My main point more than anything is that we need to support JCS long before we support vendors on E Bay - so please make JCS your first port of call - if they don't have what you are looking for they will more than likely know of an alternative source within the club membership or be able to recommend a known specialist.

Don't get me wrong E Bay and other electronic sites do have there uses and now and again something crops up at a sensible price that is rare or even just worth setting on one side for spares - point in case http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jowett-Rear-A ... 4d2c1c783e - Now how often do you come across a complete rear axle for a 7HP at a starting bid of £25 ??

The problem if nobody buys bits from ebay is that some people will determine the value of a part based on that.

If, for example, you advertised a complete chassis for sale starting at £1, and it failed to sell, you can reasonably send for scrap on the basis that nobody in the market wants it. Whether something which has zero financial value now will continue to do so in the future is anyone's guess - some parts will be cheap and easy to remanufacture, others will be available as identical to other marques, others will not and these are the parts that we need to store carefully and keep away from the scrap man.

Of course this is all very different to some who are currently testing the market with substantial spares prices on there to try and profit from those who are either not members or not aware of the availability of spares. Might this be fixed if we had a definitive list of parts which are available from JCS? Just a binary "yes remanufactured/yes used/no" list of what is there would do surely?

Jack.

The mantra / slogan should be that all parts are available via the club, either from Jowett Car Spares or members. But people trying to sell Jowett parts via ebay is also good as it does pubilcise the marque. If a part does not sell, then what does the owner do , scrap it or give it away, or just hang onto it? We go back to the discussion we had a couple of years ago about what parts should we keep and what should we scrap. Should JCS be offering the seller at least something for the part? Or should a Jowett owner buy it just in case?

However, there are still many Jowett owners and potential Jowett owners who are not in the JCC. We should not discourage a separate marketplace and a different way of people enjoying Jowetts as this may increase the number of people interested in the marque. These people might belong to a cross marque car club, be someone just interested in classic cars or have somehow stumbled on a car or bit of one. That 'market' is particularly where JowettTalk is targetted, but there are other cross marque classic car forums that have Jowett discussions.

There may be another use for a Javelin bonnet and that is to become part of a hot rod or trailer. I have seen such things done with similar curvaceous body panels.

There are many in this world (and some have registered on this forum) who have such 'challenges' as spelling. Many people pronounce it as Javalin anyway! There is a generation that were taught to spell phonetically and another generation that were not really taught/forced to spell at all. They should not fear posting on here.

Personally I cant see how E Bay vendors selling overpriced & incorrectly described Jowett parts does the club any favours - that is unless it gives a Jowett owning non JCC member the inspiration to join the club knowing that they will get a better deal through JCS

I had this on my watch list and even at £25 there were no bids.
Concurrently, a stainless steel pre-war Jowett scrip badge had 8 bids and went for £39.99.
If your half-shaft, or crown wheel and pinion went kaput, would £39.99 cover the replacement cost??
Tony.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jowett-Javeli ... 3aa58081b3

Looks like the back wheel of a Javelin in the photo. Club member??

Got very narked when I sent him a message say that his earlier listing for a Javelin tank was incorrect!
