JOWETTS FOR SALE NOVEMBER 2014

Market comment: The more realistically priced Jowetts are finding homes with fresh finds that are appearing on a very regular basis, however much like any market there will always be the vendor(s) whom price unrealistically - especially when has a whole the market is rising in price - sadly this results in vehicles which are overpriced and going nowhere, from an outside view this reflects poorly on the market of our cars has it appears that they are difficult to sell. However when a more in depth view is taken of the Jowetts that have been successfully sold over the last 12 months it becomes apparent that providing that the vehicle is fairly priced - it will find a new owner - the only sector of the market that bucks this trend is auctions - the last few months has seen a couple of Jowetts change hands on the fall of the gavel and have made very strong money.

Strongly bid to £679 then withdrawn from sale - several days before the auction ends - this normally indicates that a direct deal has been done and the vendor / purchaser are too impatient to let the let the auction run - lets just hope its found a good home

1952 Farr bodied Jupiter The advert is sparse in detail but I have made some enquiries in order to add further detail - one of four cars coachbuilt to Jupiter chassis by Farr - I am led to believe that only 3 remain - this was apparently the reserve car for the 1953 Monte Carlo rally - having been barn stored for the last 40 years the car is described as being complete but in a fragile state - given the condition the asking price is very unrealistic at £12,500 - Now reduced to £9,500 or near offer but still somewhat unrealisitic web link to the advert below but no images - the car is in the West Midlands

Re The Farr bodied Jupiter - I dont think it will be changing hands anytime soon given the price refelcted by the vendor - the car is in a very sorry state and to have it professionally restored would require expenditure in excess of two to three times the vehicles actual worth upon completion - whilst the vast majority of owners restore Jowetts with no intention of raising capital through investment in the car- it would however take a very brave person with a healthy bank balance in order to take this particular project on - lowering the asking price to a more sensable / realistic price would largly increase the chance of this vehicle finding a suitable & stable future home.

The Kestrel did go to a good home & is now in my garage & will be fully restored ( not saying how long it will take ). I visited the vendor to look at the car and he was about to remove it from eBay before I arrived - I think he was a bit annoyed with phone calls and silly offers! I'll put the car on the forum when I have a moment - most of my days are spent in the garage at present! There's a lot to do.

Julian - Fantastic result !! well done on the purchase - this is great news - time and again we see E Bay / auction projects like this come to the market and much too often they get purchased on a whim - with little research - little gets done to the project and they tend to get poorly stored only to appear on the market several years later in a worse state than previously offered. You probably have a good measure of the membership support within the club already - but just to reiterate - any help / advice / contacts that you need throughout the restoration process - is here for the asking - good luck with the restoration - Chris

Quite a jump from owning just an engine to being the possessor of a complete car. According to contempory road test reports for some inexplicable reason the '34 Kestral was the fastest of the 7hp saloons ( The twin carb weasel sports tourer was faster) . Well done !

Listing updated with sold vehicles - 14/11/14 @ 22:40 - Peter Rodgers has now sold the SC Jupiter that he had for sale - which is probably the most expensive standard bodied car to change hands in the last few years - at this rate Jupiters will be matching Jaguar XK prices in five years time !

1952 Jowett Jupiter at Kip Motors was sold at an auction in Anahiem, CA Nov 14 for US $26k. While it was nicely presented, it had water coming out the tailpipe and was pushed across the block. Purchased by a local collector in San Clemente.
