GOODWOOD REVIVAL 2015

Post by Chris Spencer »

Posted both here and in the Natter section:

Dates for the 2015 Revival are now released - 11th - 13th September 2015 - The Jowett Car Club have once again been invited to provide a taxi fleet for VIP's / Invited Guests / Goodwood Road Racing Club members - the event is looking to expand the fleet so if you are interested in attending please make contact with Keith Clements ASAP.

You are expected to make yourself & car available on a half day shift basis for either the morning or the afternoon for each of the three day event, which then gives you time to enjoy the event - in return you will receive entry passes to the event for yourself & your guests, camping passes if required and many other hospitality benefits along with GRRC membership for the following year.

Although hard work the event is thoroughly rewarding in many ways, very importantly it puts the both our cars and the club in the public spotlight at what is the most significant world classic & vintage car event of the year - which year upon year just gets better.

If you are not local to the event and camping is not your scene but still want to get involved - it is critical that you consider booking B&B / hotel accommodation local to the event now - it will be become very difficult to find accommodation within a 25 mile radius of the event if not booked several months before.

Is the shift system a new set up for next years Revival?

This is a fantastic event, and a great way to get to see it! A brilliant opportunity to get to see the event, in exchange for doing something we all like to do in our Jowetts which is drive them! The roads are pleasant pootling around the grounds of Goodwood ferrying passengers to and from the circuit to the various places on the estate. Although quite busy through the weekend its quite a relaxed event too. So if you are thinking about it for next year perhaps this post will tip your thinking towards going. ITs just a real step back time. One of my many memories of this years Goodwood was driving through the estate, when all of a sudden a hurricane? flying over head. A bit louder than a flat twin I can tell you! So why not put your name down and come along for a fun weekend!

There will quite a few changes next year based on the comprehensive feedback we gave the GRTC team.
Please make sure you return your forms to Goodwood as soon as possible and tell me when you have. Note you can send them by email to them or me, if you want to save trees. Please do not delay in booking accommodation.

Please let me know when you have sent your forms back and if you have asked for accommodation or are coming camping or have made other arrangements.

Once again, anybody else who want, to join the team please contact me. We have to double our presence next year.

Those who did attend previously, please try to recruit some new drivers.

We now have 18 Jowett owners and three additional drivers with contracts signed.

It is going to be a good one!

Post by Forumadmin »

Richard Gane's Jupiter is featured a dozen pages into the 2014 Year Book sent to all Goodwood Road Racing Club members.

This is a prestigious hard back momento much sort after.

We are winding ourselves up for the Revival again with 20 Jowett taxi drivers signed on. We are hoping to get 13 Javelins, 3 Jupiters and 2 pre-wars acting as taxis although a couple are proving to be obstinate at the thought of some work. I think their owners have not spoken to them correctly and explained they will meet many other great cars and people.
We have 9 tents and 3 motor homes which should make a good encampment around the B-B-Q.

A shift system for the drivers is planned this year hopefully giving us more time to enjoy the racing.

Period clothes are coming out of moth balls and being altered to accomodate any changes in body dimensions.

Two Jups racing at Goodwood

Post by Forumadmin »

Great news.

Goodwood wanted another Jupiter to race, so John Arnold has arranged to use the Jup he sold to John Chevers.

Richard and John will race in Race 3 on Saturday: Fordwater Trophy (20 mins) for production sports and GT cars of a type that raced between 1948 and 1954 .

Going racing?

Post by Keith Clements »

Hi Mark,
As competition sec of the JCC I should be able to advise, although procedures have changed since I started.

If you have done some motorsport competition before then you might go straight for the race licence, but, if you have not, then I advise starting with a year or two of sprints and hillclimbs. This not only gets you into some of the routines of motorsport and gives you some of the skills you need, but also sorts out the car and the way you control it.
You could also take the car to some track days at some circuits, so you learn the circuits and how your car should be taken around them.

If you do not do this you will waste a lot of money and lose the goodwill of your fellow competitors. They do not want you spinning at every corner or acting as a mobile chicane. You do not want an unreliable and badly prepared vehicle. Although some races may look like a parade from the stands, in the cockpit most drivers will be trying to get the most out of their car, and, if they are experienced, this will not show as an exciting spectacle. Their experience will only show when an outside influence, such as oil on the track or another driver skidding, causes them to use their reflexes developed on the skid pans, wet tracks and years of pushing the car to the limits and recovering when over the limit.

There is no test requirement for taking out a Non-Race National B licence but the Association of Hillclimb and Sprint Schools (AHASS) offers a written examination that can count as an upgrade signature towards a Speed National A licence.

You then need to save up to do a series of races in one year. It is VERY expensive just to do a couple of races a year as overalls, helmet and other apparel have date limits.
However, for the Race, Rally and Kart (excluding Clubman/Tyro) disciplines you will first need to buy a Starter Pack from the MSA Shop and then pass either an ARDS (Race), BARS (Rally) or ARKS (Kart) test.

You then need to get the car to pass scrutineering for whichever series you are going to race in. If you are planning to race a Jav or Jup then we should be able to advise on suitable events in which to try to get an entry.

Although this sounds a lot to do, the thrill of participating in motorsport, both on the track and off it, is unforgettable. The camerarderie builds up with the drivers, mechanics and marshalls. You start to see improvement and get a deep satisfaction of acheivement, however small or personal it might be.

Much more advice available from myself and Richard Gane, perhaps come and see us at Goodwood or Castle Combe later in the year.

Cuppa tea on the way

Post by Forumadmin »

Call me old fashioned, but I can't find where to access a new post so.... This is nothing to do with 5 speed gear box but hope it can be located in the appropriate section. So......
On a recent Jowett jolly to France in our Jupiter, we were parked amongst the Glitterati going to LeMans. A young man jumped out of a Porsche exclaiming: that's a Jowett Jupiter! Amazing in one so young! To cut long stories short, he told me he was married to the Granddaughter of Reg Korner, designer of the Jupiter.
I have stayed in touch and he has passed on my accounts of Jowett in activities to Roger Korner, son of Reg, who now lives in France.
The most recent email I received from Tiger ( yes that's his name) offers a cuppa to anyone going to Goodwood who might be passing - I assume in a Jupiter.
Let me know if any Jupiters will be on the A286 south of A3 on way to Goodwood where a cuppa. Is on offer. Three small great grandsons. Would also be delighted to see their heritage.
Please post in relevant place.

Sue Mason.

Dear Sir or Madam

I hope this email finds you well.

I'm emailing you on behalf of Engage Sports Media, who are the official provider of live coverage from the 2015 Goodwood Revival.

We would like to offer you a link to the live streaming (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4sGzQKKzVc) of the event for use on your website as well as clips from the weekend's events. We understand that there are a number of Jowett's taking part in this years event.

This will give you the chance to both connect with and expand your current client base. We covered the event in depth last year gaining up to half a million views and we are hoping to far surpass this in 2015. During our recent partnership with Goodwood at the Festival of Speed, we captured the following three moments, all of which were well received.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keiUSSCeGdc

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxLipspcsAY

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nILDnDqaDg

We will be clipping up many moments from the events and some of them will appeal to your community, especially on social media. We can also talk about a potential ad-share deal on these videos.

If you are interested in discussing this further, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards,
Ellie Bartley
