A little early but here is the October listing still a great deal of choice out there regardless of model that you maybe seeking, a steady climb in prices across all models too - this is purely down to the fact that the investment market is driving the prices up of the classic / vintage car market - all specialist auction houses have been consistently recording record prices for both individual models and sales of all classic / vintage vehicles that have been held over the last 12 months - previously Jowetts rarely appeared in auction sales but they are starting to make an impact as the club consistently raises the profile of the marque.

1950 Javelin project Early car, looks fairly solid and is complete - engine turns over - just out of storage of 30 years - original registration number has been transferred and is now registered 'ALJ 164A' - Turquoise with beige interior - E Bay fixed price sale - unfortunately priced at £2,650 the vendor is asking twice of what the vehicle is realistically worth in this condition - car is located in Staines - West London - link below SOLD

1952 Farr bodied Jupiter The advert is sparse in detail but I have made some enquiries in order to add further detail - one of four cars coachbuilt to Jupiter chassis by Farr - I am led to believe that only 3 remain - this was apparently the reserve car for the 1953 Monte Carlo rally - having been barn stored for the last 40 years the car is described as being complete but in a fragile state - asking price is strong at £12,500 - web link to the advert below but no images - the car is in the West Midlands

1928 Jowett 7/17 Sports Racer Originally left the factory as a tourer but was restored & rebodied with a sports body in the 70's, Matching chassis / engine number: 823147 - regisration number: RA 5762, Looks to be in fine order and formed part of a collection in the USA, Said to be the only 2 cylinder / pre war Jowett in the States, For auction on the 9/10/14 - 10/10/14 - through RM Auctions at Hershey, Pennsylvania, USA. re the cream Javelin in Australia and the Monte Carlo description . It seems unlikely that this actual car was in the Monte Carlo but it is seen as fair to use the generic description in such cases . Gerald Palmer was one of the crew of 3 in the Javelin which , after a protest to correct an error in the results finished top of the under 1.5 litre class in the event in January 1949 and was 14th overall. The car in question was a works prototype made in 1948, sold to Tommy Wise , the first co driver was Cuth Harrison . It was reg. MNW 444 ( Leeds ). There were four other Javelins entered, one was driven by Horace Grimley and Ron Smith , finishing 22nd overall and third in class.

The advert describes the cream car as a 1951 and it has a "display " registration "JAV 51". I have not checked to see if Javelins repeated this success in later events

Also in 1949 another works Javelin won the 2 litre class in the Spa 24 hr race driven by Wisdom and Hume ( entry no 86). All this info is in Palmer's book--"auto-architect ". May be others have more on this ?

The Jowett 7-17 Sports was last sold by H&H at Buxton on 13th July 1995, it sold for £6000. It would be nice if it returned to GB and took it's rightfull place on the trials hills.

The Jowett 7-17 Sports was sold at auction in the US on Thursday evening for $35,000 which relates on todays GBP exchange rates at £21,772.26 - although under the auction guide price this is strong money for a pre war Jowett - UK values are also climbing at steady pace with some of the pre war car values having doubled in the last five years - although this is not to everyone's preference - it is in line with the rest of vintage & classic car market. However, whilst the vast majority of members restore their Jowetts for various different reasons, some of us just like the satisfaction of undertaking our own restorations, others are fulfilling a long lived ambition, whilst some of us have grown up with the cars and have never known anything any different - plus a whole load more reasons.

In reality though there are few members that would want to spend several times the restored cars value in returning what was a previously unrestored Jowett to the road by just throwing money at it. With values becoming strong in the market the reasoning behind dusting off that untouched Jowett of a number years and cracking on with returning it to the road is now quite a strong proposition.

There is a wealth of help within the club so if you don't where to start, are scratching your head with a problem of how to get something back together - cannot find that elusive part - just post the project / problem on the forum and lets see how can we help

The Sandy Javelin GWF 130 was registered in late 1948 in East Riding ,Yorks. According to a note in "Jowetteer" it is D 8 P A 1104 so is an early car ! Bob
