Goodwood Revival 2014. Taxi service.

Post by Forumadmin »

Anyone wishing to work hard for three days at the Revival and take part in an unforgettable experience please contact me. A WORKING CAR HELPS your application.

Most of the places have been taken up by last year's drivers.

Sorry the previous post was a bit short but I as was on the train going to Horseguard's Parade to see a great marching band display.
I have all the forms and will send them out to the drivers who so far have said they want to partake. But if you want to join us taxiing the VIP's (and other interesting people) around from 12th-14th September then please contact me either by phone or email or PM.

All fourteen of our driver contracts are submitted, so expect to see 12 Jowetts ferrying VIPs around the event. We have 8 Javelins, 2 Jupiters and Ken Rogers' and Alan Bartlett's pre-wars.

Should anyone want to come to the event on either Friday, Saturday or Sunday please let me know ASAP. I may be able to locate entry tickets . The event is now sold out on all three days. Note that a camping pass may also be available if you want to experience the night life as well.

All done and dusted successfully.
Jack created this Handbook with a Visitor's comments section for each car.
This file is 3MB but a 10MB one is also in the TOPIC Legacy /History section.

Hopefully participants will post their pictures and comments in this thread or, preferably, in the TOPIC Gallery here.

James and I had a great day out at Goodwood on Sunday - me in the Long Four (110 miles round trip, no problems) and James with his Capri newly returned from a stint at Nurburgring (11 min 20s without really trying).

Investigating the car park in the afternoon we bumped into Nigel Hicks and his party with the green Javelin previously owned by his father (They never wear out, you pass them to your next of kin!).

Sadly we did not manage to catch up with the Taxi Service although we did find the 'Glam Cabs' girls and a row of London-type taxis - perhaps the Jowetts were all going about their proper business!

I hope everyone enjoyed the day as much as we did and had an uneventful return journey.

Autumn looms and I will be getting the car ready to receive its 'skin' at last.

Here's to next season.

Well what can I say?!

An absolutely fantastic weekend, and an amazing opportunity of which I am very thankful to be included. An excellent weekend of pottering around a grand estate, and exploring this brilliant event! With great company from the fleet thanks to Keith, Amy, Jack, Chris, Sharon, Rupert, Nigel, Peter and Ken for making me feel so welcomed. The event was real step back in time.

Both Journeys too and from the event went off pretty much without a hitch, only getting lost a couple of times, but the car performing well,

During the three days, The Lady did decide to have a little tantrum and blow a head gasket, but soon set about changing it, with great support from the Jowett Taxi fleet making sure everything was all O.k. It was quite a surreal experience at the side of road on one side a group of golfers all dressed up playing golf though a little worrying every time you heard the hit of the golf ball wondering if it was coming my way! While on the other side various vintage vehicles travelling around ferrying various passengers through the estate.

With fuel on tap, a fantastic weekend!

TOPIC Pictures added with comments in the Gallery.

There are also three movies in the album to hear some great sounds of the Lancaster flypast, C and D type Jags and the muscle cars in the TT race.
One picture here to savour of part of the fleet outside the Kennels.

I wonder whether there should be a designated time and place for ALL Jowetteers, not just the Taxi Service, to meet up at the Goodwood Revival, as it seems more of us are going to the Weekend year by year.

Many of you will remember our efforts to have a Club stall at the National Autojumble at Beaulieu in Hampshire for a number of years, just so there would be a meeting place for the convenience of all members.

It was appreciated.

Tony.

The best place to organise that would be in the pre- 60 car park, assuming there is one next year, although the Lavant Club bank might be an alternative. All of these cost money though.
Note half the taxi drivers were camping so we had a large plot to congregate and have a BBQ.

The event has so much to see that you really do not want a focal point, but just move around and see as much as you can. You will need a whole three days!
One problem is that some will arrive on Thursday all the way through to Sunday, so timing any meeting is difficult. The taxi rank had a secluded 'tea' area that could have been used to meet and chat as we were taking a break, although we too had a limited time to do such things.

The racing is the key thing you go for, so finding a spot to view is the primary task. Those with Grandstand tickets will avail themselves of that facility. Those with GRRC membership will chill out in their own area.

If anyone is thinking of going next year then please, please, please tell me as early as you can, we had very valuable tickets left over this year.

Any reason why the photo don't come up? I've had it with a few on here of recent?

You need to log in to the Gallery I suspect - if you click at the top it should open in a new window, log in and then refresh this page.
