Jupiter 715 for sale in California

Post by Srenner »

I will be collecting Jupiter 715 from its resting place of the last 20 years within the next few weeks. Ted Miller and I rescued this one back in 1988 from a fellow in So. Cal. and I sold it 1994 to a fellow in No. Cal.

Is anyone interested in a LHD restoration project?

I will catalog the parts and get pictures when I go to pick it up. I'm not sure what the asking price will be, as condition and the parts package need to be confirmed. I'm not looking to profit on this, but I will have to negotiate with the current owner once I see the car.

I'm hopeful that someone reading the forum might decide the time is right for another Jupiter to get back on its feet! I already have three, so my plate is pretty full.

Cheers,
Scott

It was a complete body on its wheels, but missing the motor and gearbox, the seat and then my memory gets questionable. The owner collected many bits over the years, hence the caveat that I need to see the "spares" to know what is missing. I got a whopping US $1000 that included a reconditioned radiator ($250) and towing it to N. California. The round trip cost me about $120 in gas! It was Jan. 17, 1994 about 2 AM when I got back and crawled into bed. At 4:30 AM, the 6.4 Northridge earthquake struck. I was so tired that I didn't even get out of bed, even though my bed was jumping around like a derailed freight train!

Until I get a chance to go through the package and deal with the owner, any price is speculative. I know for sure he wants his $1000 back!

Hello:

I will be getting 715 on 29 March and should be back at my shop the next day. Pictures and inventory to follow! Someone needs this car!

Chris, maybe we could add this one to cars for sale?

After 20 years, two months and two weeks, I have 715 back. Now is the chance for someone else to finally put this car back on the road.

It needs total refurbishment. There is a picture file in the gallery under "Jupiter 715". Most everything I am describing can be seen in the pictures.

Present are: all body panels, front bumper (bent) and rears, center and side grilles, radiator, boot and spare tire carrier, stone guards, entire prop shaft, handbrake system, windshield, dash cap, window mechanisms, gas tank and other good bits.

In sad shape: remains of the seat, although the hinges are there; gauge set is present but in poor condition, shifter has old bad repairs to the column housing.

Missing: motor, gearbox, bonnet badge, front inner mud guards, center hood strip, windows, master cylinder, anything wood, convertible top assembly, exhaust system, inner windshield trim, plus minor parts.

Rust: Not too bad. Scuttle bottom on one side is holed and alloy door hinge is broken, battery boxes are shot, floor board is rusted through in places. Someone cut a 6" section from the steel floor crossbeam and bolted in a board (people do the stupidest things!). The door sills look good, no visible problems along the inner side of the sills, no rust at the trailing edge (in front of the rear wheels), chassis tubes all look good.

No evidence of crash damage anywhere and although the front panels are nearly defect free, both rear wings have dents, as does the rear deck. The doors are straight and fit very well.

The owner has not named his price yet.

I may be able to source some of the missing bits to make this a more complete project. I can assist with shipping and am very willing to take picture and give more detailed information.

Let's find this one a home!
Cheers,
Scott

Hello David:

My neighbors in my shop complex are pretty accommodating, so I could probably store it here indefinitely. The problem is I start thinking about restoring it and then James Miller pushes to keep it for the body spares! He has a point, as several of my panel beater friends would charge about $4000 just to replicated a wing.

Price is likely to be about US $2500. He had a deal at that price from another Jup owner who never came to pick it up. The price might be lower as he has been sorting the parts he bought over the years and will keep some for use on restoring his other Jup.

The inner windshield trim is in place: I had erroneously listed them as missing. I think the only hard thing to find will be the folding top mechanism.

May is coming up fast and finding a NEW Jup person here is an exercise in patience. We can play it all by ear.
Cheers,
Scott

This car is too good to break up,but I dare say 1st person who pays wins, If nothing else I would still like a Jupiter chassis, so if it is broken up keep me in mind for chassis. The price is fine.

I agree that the car is too good a restoration candidate to sell off for bits. I'm holding off advertising it to the mainstream just in case one of "us" is interested.

Dear Scott,
Do you have a spare front end that is dashboard footwells windscreen holder etc for a Jupiter.
That is everything between the door and the bonnet.

Hello Tom!

You caught me on a road trip. Sorry for the delay in responding.

No partial cars within my grasp. I know of some rather sad and cut up rollers in the deep south and will try to locate the owner.

James Miller sold all his partials to John Blankey back at the turn of the century.

Cheers,
Scott
