What is the reason for splitting some articles into 2 columns in the Jowetteer ? It's not a major issue but I find it mildly irritating to have to read just 5 or 6 words before starting a new line. When I read a book, I read across the whole page.

Getting my Jowetteer on-line also means scrolling the page back to the top. Alan does a great job...but why this quirky set-up ?

Laying text in columns is generally thought to make it easier to read. E..g newspapers.
However for reading on computer screens it can be more difficult. Some programs are able to cope by using a reading order. W3C and other standards help assistive technologies to deliver to handicapped.
Small screen friendly layout is also a challenge.
I try to use a flowing layout on web pages which means text and pictures will try to fit in the space available . However tables and columns still are sometimes better.

What kind of device are you using to view the Jowetteer? I found that viewing on a kindle or tablet (using kindle app) made viewing the digital version much easier, you can just swipe across the page to "turn over" to avoid scrolling.

The Jowetteer is not really designed to be viewed online, the pdf we send is about as close as we can get to a universally viewable file which is reasonably easy to read through, but pdf does have its disadvantages. If we invested more in this we could produce it as an online "book" but this might be difficult for some to view - the challenges of logging in to the forum and gallery seems to be difficult for many, and to keep the Jowetteer to members being able to view might make it too hard for members to access.
